Future Man

Jacque Fresco is a genius, architect, engineer, designer of cities and transportation modes, inventor, economist, philosopher and futurist. Did I mention that he has comprehensive plans to redesign the world?

    • great comments! I'm glad people don't think these amazing ideas are not too far fetched. I believe we need a very real change in order to survive on this planet FOREVER. He is just the only person i have seen to have created a concept that makes sense.

    • a bit utopian for humanity, but inspiring nonetheless.

I like most of his ideas.

I'd like to see radical entrepeneurs in the private sector creating these things and implementing them.

stop relying on the government to do anything besides spend your money. the government is worthless. the government is a waste of money and nothing else. fire all of them.

    • Fascinating concepts by thinking way out of the box! I love that he thought to replenish what we take from the oceans and detoxify simultaneously.

    • I love this!!! I don't think the title was meant to be sexist, or to refer to "mankind." Like Superman, or Wonder Woman, to me, Jacque Fresco is "Future Man."

    • All of the infrastructure for the automobile (which incidentally uses up more than two-thirds of all urban, suburban and exurban landscape) was paid for by our tax dollars. Once the infrastructure for quality public transportation is in place, it will be cleaner, cheaper, faster and more convenient than cars trucks or motorcycles. We can run individual-sized vehicles on rails right up into and out of our own private driveways for far less money than the cost of paving them. We can uncouple the vehicles and run them up the sides of buildings on a rail as well, thus eliminating the need for separate elevators in high-rises. We could order up a small private rail car that would be at our doorstep quicker than calling a taxi and it could take us anywhere we wanted to go and back, from the corner Starbucks to across the country, to Yosemite Park, all for a few pennies on the dollar of what it costs to maintain and operate the carbon monoxide belcher of your choice. It would eliminate nearly all traffic fatalities, repair bills, insurance costs, much of pollution, and release tens of thousands of acres of unused (and/or otherwise useless) paved-over space in every city in the country, which could then be returned to nature and/or used for growing watermelon or playing frisbee.

Unfortunately, like the dreaded public library system, this approach smacks of naked socialism:) But it doesn't have to. Granted, there probably isn’t enough creative focus available to build infrastructure and also continue with all the fun we are having subsidizing Halliburton's bottom line by blowing up shit in the Middle East.

For now, we’ve made the blind choice of corporatism (aka capitalism), preferring to support wealthy murdering freeloaders as opposed to protecting poor productive ones. But one sad myth about our economic system of choice is that infrastructure requires tax money for funding. Our government is able to issue it’s own money debt free and then loan it out at low interest to companies to build the infrastructure, payable only when the infrastructure is completed and up and running and generating revenues.

China proved it in less than 10 years. And by most measures, they are still a third world country. Look at the city of Shanghai as compared to a few years ago. New bridges, tunnels, tall buildings all over the place. Trains that go 300 mph to the new airport. Tax dollars did not pay for that.

What paid for it was China creating it’s own money to buy US dollars from it’s manufacturers, some of which they then use to loan to the USA at interest, and then created more local money with fractional reserve banking that funds infrastructure development.

And while China has heaping problems dealing with its teeming masses yearning to drive hummers, they are already building the first series of eco-cities in the world, from the ground up, using cradle-to-cradle resources. It's just a step in the direction of a resource-based economy. Curitiba, Brazil, a city of more than 2 million people, retooled their city infrastructure from the ground up in a few years to become the leading eco-city in the world. Curitiba is far healthier, earth friendly, aesthetic, livable and transportation efficient than any city in the US. And they did it with almost no money and only a fraction of the resources available in North America.

We could do something similar and do it far more effectively than China or Brazil before this year's freshman class graduates.

    • Thanks, very inspiring!

I was hoping for a less sexist title like

      Future Planned Societies

      Humans in the Future or

      The Future is Today

as we can start to plan a better society Today!
I hope you don't mind if I tell you that I did submit your video to "Current Radio News."

Current Radio is only for music.

I myself made this mistake right here back them because I was typing too fast for my own good. That just proves that speed bring some mistakes in the process! You can email "support@current.com" and ask to remove yourself from Current Radio list. I know I'll be sending my mistake up and I hope they just correct it!

Great! I do love planning and architecture!

Was that a joke? "Harmony" has been commonly evoked as the "reason" why populations have been forced to conform to the will of others. This man's vision of "starting from scratch" has far too many historical echoes to list here, but none of them ended up being anything near utopian. True Harmony occurs when nature is allowed to be free. When we are open to the natural vibrations all around us, freedom will finally achieve balance with order. True Harmony will not occur as the result of one man's grand vision.

    • amazing. and naive. None of this will ever be implemented. Resistance will come from many different areas. From car companies to ocean wildlife conservationists.

    • I like the idea of finding balance and harmony with the resources we have, instead of exploitation that is clearly tearing the world up right before our eyes. I hope I'm alive to see positive change towards our future and we get the opportunity to see what we are really capable of accomplishing together.
A little style never hurt anyone either, captivating work.

I do think the man is nothing short of fantastic and it would be totally glorious if people would join together world wide to accomplish such a wonderful way of life. I completely wish it's in our future because it would be so very perfect.

    • Wonderful! Reminds me of Star Trek where there is no money. Everybody works at what they are good at and no one is starving, no one is homeless, and everyone who is able contributes to society. No one is profiting at someone else's expense. Dreamy!

    • i wish there were many more people like this man. our society would run so much more logically and it would leave more resources to deal with real problems. if we (our species) survive the next couple hundred years, hopefully people like this guy will lead us into a new way of looking at the world. great visionary.

    • This guy is well past 90 years old and he has more energy than a litter of puppies! His mind is so sharp, his ideas are excellent, and his plans for making things work are fantastic but so simple. Society must pay attention to it's genius elders.

    • I am somewhat familiar with Jacque Fresco's work. He has a great book out on future transportation and cities being built in the sea. Quite a visionary! Great video work! see more about him at: thevenusproject.com
