I love to play video games a lot-everyday, 24/7 because I am not a socialable person but I'm shy around people.

Kotaku editor Mike Fahey posted about his addiction to EverQuest a while back.
I thought it was a pretty fascinating read, take a look:

I wish people would shut up about addiction this, addiction that. Do you know there is no term for an addiction to Schoolwork? or addiction to Sports? or addiction to having tons of fresh air? People just want to blame addiction for things they don't want to admit that they are just stupid.
While I believe that you can get addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, crack, meth, blow, and steroids, it does not mean you should be blaming things like video games, the Internet, and porn. If your between 16-26, porn is natural. You just can't tell your body, "Hey, I'm an adult now, so no sexual urges." If you are jacking off about 10 times a day, then you may want to see help, though.
The reason that all these new addictions are on the rise is because scientists and medical professionals get paid "research" money. It's already proven that most mental aid medicines are placebos. I got off Internet just fine as well as video games. The thing is people don't want to admit that they are weak. So, they say their addicted.
I've played many an addicting game, but I got off of it like that. How? Two simple words: Learning curve. Eventually, it'll get boring, and you move on.
My final words:STOP ADDING ADDICTING TO EVERY SINGLE DAMN ACTIVITY YOU SEE IN LIFE!!!!

I'd love it if my girl just sat around and play games all day. Maybe not Mortal Kombat though. Then I'd think she was a little off.

hey, i'm addicted to video games too. I been playing games since I was 5 years old. I play them alot. I don't even go outside. The first game I played was Lemmings and I enjoyed it. http://uk.current.com/people/woodhouseproductions is one of my new Current channels (I have lots of other Current channels aswell) and I'm planning to make my first ever animation movie based on, yes you guessed it, gaming. What could be fun? That and break dancing is fun. You know you can play games with familes aswell. Guitar Hero is one of them. Buzz! is a perfect game for dads who know questions from quizz shows in the 70's and back when they had nothing else to enjoy.
The reason why we play games rather than going outside is because we learnt that we can trust computers more than humans (we are humans) and, yes you're right, we should get outside more.
I will also be making my first movie with me in it all about me, outside, inside, my life, upside down, whatever you want to call it.
I've made videos for class projects and mine have been rated the best out of the class. I play games alot but I do other stuff too. I read books, I write stories about games and stuff, I make animations videos (my new ones will be better this year for my other channels).
If you guys wanna check out more about me (when I ain't playing games or online) then check out my Bebo site: www.warrenwoodhouse.co.uk ( www.warrenw88.bebo.com ) where the things about me are all explained.
Yes I have a girlfriend aswell and she knows I'm addicted to video games (go figure) but she's always here for me and I like that.
Anyways if you guys have time you can always send a message back to me or if any of you guys have MSN then that would be good if you could add me: site@798inc.co.uk to your MSN list.
I do produce my own work and I do give credit to all those responsible for helping me out and pointing me in the right direction.
Take care guys and all the best. What an amazing video and I plan to see more videos from your channel soon.
Your newest fan,
Warren Woodhouse

Since everything is capabable of creating a strong emotional surge, it is possible everything is addictive. Emotions are the most addictive chemicals known to man.
What I think could be more important is these people applying their love of games in a positive way. If these people play games for 40-60 hours a week, why not become a play tester? Or even a new content creating level designer.
By converting the "wasted" time into useful time, both video game companies and gamers can prosper.

I don't think there is anything wrong with doing something that makes you happy. What's next on the addiction list, TV, driving?

It's interesting that when people are obsessed with gaming it's addiction, but when they spend 9 months of the year looking forward to hunting season, or spend all their free time fishing or skating or painting or playing music then that's something else.
The Super Bowl one of the biggest television events of the year with billions of dollars spent on advertising. When was the last time you heard someone called a football addict?

I really enjoyed this video. I do have an issue with the way that its framed, though. Everyone accepts phrases like "to each his own" and "people are different" but when it comes to hardcore gamers we have to call it "addition". I can rephrase it:
15% of these "additicted" gamers have trouble relating to 85% of people that don't know how fulfilling games are
Or how about investigating how many of these so-called Gamer Widows are uninteresting bags of flesh (or) have nothing in common with their husbands after they really got to know each other?
How many people play Warcraft for the community and friendly bonds they create with people moreso than the actual game content? Its not like we're talking about PONG anymore. Games connect people together now.
Obviously, I'm a gamer and I prefer to hang with gamers. I rejected adult life and made writing about games my day job. My girlfriend loves gaming and we game in big social groups all the time. That's the constructive message to preach here -- if gaming makes you happy get away from people that think gaming is toxic. They have no idea what they are missing and don't speak for you.

I love video games.... a quick game of Call of Duty 4 or Gears of War and I'm set. Actually I don't think there is such a thing as a "quick" game. But anyways what is with the music in this video, its so.... sad! Video Games kick ass. Well unless you become ADDICTED to them. God forbid, I wouldn't be able to go to Victoria's Secret.

Video games are definitely an addiction. I know because I have been addicted and still currently am. I find myself blowing off everyone around me, including my boyfriend, for my controller and Xbox Live Headset. And for the people who think that this pod is being overly dramatic, you wouldn't understand unless you've been where these people have been. It's not just like sitting on the couch and watching tv for a couple of hours, it's a problem. Just like alcoholics and addicts of that sort. You can't just QUIT, it's not that easy. It's an addiction that could call for psychiatric attention if ignored long enough.

Video games are definitely easy for people with goal mindsets to get over involved in. There is always an achievement to unlock or a rank to aim for.

There has definitely been periods of my life when I have been, no doubt, addicted to video games- where I would choose to play a video game than go out with friends. My most recent time I took on a gaming commitment I told my friends if they called me to go out, I will not blow them off.... unless I was kicking some major ass.
Like Celeste said though, it's what makes me happy. I authentically feel better about myself and feel in a better mood during the day when I play video games. There has been times recently when I felt down, low, for no apparent reason. I renewed my Xbox Live subscription, and in a couple hours I was feeling so much better. I think on a deep, psychological scale, playing video games releases happy chemicals in mah brainz.

i think that video game addiction is a serious problem. the particular people in the pod might not have as bad issues with it, but some people abandon their lives for the digital world
