U.S. school district to begin microchipping students

Image
nickdaniel42
A Rhode Island school district has announced a pilot program to monitor student movements by means of radio frequency identification (RFID) chips implanted in their schoolbags.

The Middletown School District, in partnership with MAP Information Technology Corp., has launched a pilot program to implant RFID chips into the schoolbags of 80 children at the Aquidneck School. Each chip would be programmed with a student identification number, and would be read by an external device installed in one of two school buses. The buses would also be fitted with global positioning system (GPS) devices.

Parents or school officials could log onto a school web site to see whether and when specific children had entered or exited which bus, and to look up the bus’s current location as provided by the GPS device.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has criticized the plan as an invasion of children’s privacy and a potential risk to their safety.

"There’s absolutely no need to be tagging children," said Stephen Brown, executive director of the ACLU’s Rhode Island chapter. According to Brown, the school district should already know where its students are.

"[This program is] a solution in search of a problem," Brown said.

The school district says that its current plan is no different than other programs already in place for parents to monitor their children’s school experience. For example, parents can already check on their children’s attendance records and what they have for lunch, said district Superintendent Rosemary Kraeger.

Brown disputed this argument. The school is perfectly entitled to track its buses, he said, but "it’s a quantitative leap to monitor children themselves." He raised the question of whether unauthorized individuals could use easily available RFID readers to find out students’ private information and monitor their movements.

Because the pilot program is being provided to the school district at no cost, it did not require approval from the Rhode Island ethics commission.

It appears the British Government has their own form of indoctrination planned for it's kids 5 and under. - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/education/article4004420.ece

    • If this happens, socialism isn't far.
We can let the government have cameras at school because they're part of public property, but students have a freedom to have what they want to have in their schoolbags and what they do while walking to the restrooms.

    • children have no rights in so far as they are the property of their creators... If the parents have no problems with these measures than there should be no issue. It keeps their children where they are supposed to be, by thinking they are being monitored all the time per the Hawthorne effect. It makes sense, and as much as I would love there to be a RESISTANCE OF AMERICANS, it can't happen, unless you already live in an off-the-grid house and plant all of your own food. Deal with it, NWO is here & if this pilot program takes off, all over the states will this happen to all of our children.

As for Resistance, there is no reason why any student couldn't simply get a new bag and forget to switch the chip... who the heck cares if this works or not, either way it is a step towards a nation where freedom means complete control by the gov't. and voters can't do a damn thing to stop that because we don't actually vote on the measures that control the public, unless of course you are a member of Congress. WHO IS?!?!

suck it civilians & take it deep!

    • We're fucked. Rumor has it, when the end of times is coming, which only the Father knows, an antichrist will appear. He will be welcomed by the masses, and he will hold power through fear. Everyone will have the mark of the beast, for if you do not you will not be able to buy or sell anything, because the Antichrist will be in charge of the markets. These microchips are the mark of the beast. This isn't a matter of if these RFIDs will be used, its when, and apparently the time is now. I hope, I really do hope, that people will be able to overcome this shit. Is it too late?

    • WHAT? Has everyone lost their freaking minds? I understand that in this country, with all the crap kids can get into nowadays, and all the crazies and sickos out their you could get a little overprotective, but seriously, is it so bad that you need to limit your kids freedom to this extent? You're hanging them with leashes. If you give them no choice in the matter, and you come off so distrusting, you'll only have angry, rebellious kids in a country where you can find trouble in even the most tranquil corners. This is action will have consequences and you'll see them biting before you even do it. Take ethanol for example. Used it for a good cause (saving the environment, lowering gas prices, yadayada) but in no time flat you saw food prices skyrocket, loss of land resources in providing areas, more energy in producing ethanol, and raising gas prices. I'll be the first to say I told you so. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and what your gonna get is a whole lot of it.

    • reading this story makes me worried about the fabric america was bulit on.
this idea of microchipping children, id's, passport posses an ethical question, one of which the people of america need to ask themselves-How much are we willing to give up for "freedom"? (that makes the topic of freedom in america a question in itself. ) how much of this repressing controlling spying governement are will really going to tollerate?
a new understanding is needed, no more blind- led like sheep. spoon-fed news.
what the american people need is a movement on the basis of education.
educating ourselfs/each other on what is really happening around us.

Electronic tagging of criminals, the demand of DNA from law abiding citizenry for just being in the vicinity of alleged crime. And proposals to obtain DNA from new born at birth. All in a bid they'll tell us to further protect us from the boogey Man that seems to lurk in every conceivable space.

    • Fuck this. Fuck everyone who thinks this is a good thing. This is absolutely ridiculous. They've been pushing this for years. RFID chips means the end of any freedom. They're putting these chips into ALL COMSUMER GOODS and tracking it. It all goes into a computer and into a file with your name. It's all for marketing and sales and efficiency, but we're PEOPLE. Big brother, prophecies in revelation fulfilled. If your into that shit- this is the "mark of the beast". Absolutely fucking ridiculous.

There is an EXCELLENT book that gives you the facts about RFID chips. (There's some rhetoric, but it's all true, so it's not a bunch of crackpot stuff. It's what's happening and how technology is being used in our time)
Also, read The Last Question by Isaac Asimov. It's short and good. And makes you track over a bigger picture.

With just a little bit of imagination, kid could have a good time screwing with the powers that be.

Yep...it's a New World Order. It's for their safety!
I believe it was Ben Franklin that said something like...
Those that surrender freedom for security, deserve neither freedom nor security.

    • Before anyone gets too upset, you need to think about how the system actually works. The infrastructure does not exist to keep tabs on the bags at all times. There is not a supergrid of RFID readers out in the general public to track all of the tags, nor to interpret the numerical data!

The chips can only be read within a short distance of the reader anyway. Most likely the tags are considered passive, and are only capable of transmitting the 'identification number' when it is powered by the reader itself.

And let's be realistic...it is tracking the bag, not the child. Who's to say that children won't accidentally or purposefully trade bags with someone else? Quite frankly, I don't see this as being anything different than a timestamp for the time a bag gets on or off a bus. Think of the individuals that use RFID technology to go into or leave secured buildings? Is it any different? You don't necessarily know who is holding the RFID key...just that someone is able to enter.

I wouldn't get riled up over this...the U.S. has to many other things to take care of before they even think about setting up RFID readers all over the place.

No man, you are totally wrong. RFID uses radio waves to emit a unique frequency in which the data on the chip is encoded. Radio waves travel all over the world, for instance, talk radio AM. You can receive it from all over the country and the world for that matter. I.e. Telegraphs!!!! Same thing. Radio waves. Come on man. It's 2008. You should know this.

    • I don't see why this would be necessary but I could also see that this would help. It's not much of an invasion of privacy, it's just tracking WHERE the person is. Not WHAT they are doing. I mean, if your kid is ditching school or something like that, it would be helpful to know. Also if a bag does get lost it would be easy to locate. I don't think this is necessary at all though, put your money/effort elsewhere!

    • The government watching our every move is so scary. Starting to track children now will normalize it for their generation and future more extensive tracking systems will be met with little resistence.

But big brother aside, how are we raising our children today? Tracking their every move, proving to them that we don't trust them to make the right decisions. Or are we feeding them garbage that danger is waiting at every bus stop? I feel like we are ruining the younger generations by not letting them experience life on their own.

Gone are the days of neighbors helping to raise a child. It saddens me that I cant let my daughters walk alone JUST DOWN TO THE END OF THE STREET!!!. With all the kidnappins and rapes and amber alertsgoing off at an astounding rate daily, I have reverted to fight in my own way by using GPS tracking of my daughters. Am I being overprotective.....YEP! Do I think it sucks to have to do this? HELL YEAH! Am I gonna stop.....DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!

    • Let me just clarify a few RFID myths. RFID chips do not have and positioning device in them. So, no, you cannot be hunted down with a satellite. RFID chips are in the new U.S. passports (and several other countries' passports). I got mine last November, and yes it has an RFID chip in it. I'd take a photo of it myself but the visa service has it. Your cellphones DO have GPS technology in them, and your position can be found through your phone.

    • Hey everybody, they already have the technology in cell phones with GPS.

This story talks about making people smarter and parents are using cell phones with GPS technology to track the whereabouts of their children.

Parents are held accountable for the actions of their child so when they use this kind of technology to care for their responsibilities they are doing their duty and shouldn't be chastised for that.

I don't see what the big deal is if the school wants to use RFID chips to assist the parents monitor their kids and their bus transportation, as long as they aren't injecting them into students bodies, if it's OK with the parents then it should be OK for the kids and the community; but on another note, if the use of the chips is mandatory by the school District and parents who choose to "opt out" aren't allowed to, then we have an entirely different matter on our hands.

In this country if you choose to use technology to run a tighter ship of your family then you should be allowed to do it of your own free will. Otherwise we are talking tyranny and that is subject to revolt.

They want to control you, your movements, your thoughts, your words. It's all part of the neo-socialist movement. This is how they will kill capitalism and turn the USA into the USSA -- United Socialist States of America. And George Soros will be Big Brother. He's a socialist and America doesn't need him or his stupid socialist plan. America is the land of the free but is moving rapidly toward a nation of economic slaves. There is a new civil war coming and it won't be racial -- it's going to be between patriotic America-loving, capitalist, conservatives and America-hating, bong-smoking, tree-hugging, socialist, lazy liberals.

Anyone who has watched any youtube videos about it or has done their own research knows what i'm talking about. It's not a forgotten subject, although the corporate controlled media, with the exception of Fox News who promotes it, declines to talk about it. To be quite honest, the only place you will see unfiltered and undoctored news coverage over such an important issue is current.

    • I say the pilot program should consist of all FDA employees. If they see this being a good thing, they shouldn't mind being implanted.

While we're at it, why don't we implant all those who "represent" us in government.

These are the people we need to keep track of.....

    • The story is all over the internet man, just not on prisonplanet.

      http://www.naturalnews.com/023445.html

      google it

The guy cites his sources, everything is transparent, he even lists the company and the school district involved. So before you try to discredit a story, do the research.

And since you're obviously afriad of "upsetting" Big Brother, I don't think I want to talk to you. Don't try to contact me either. And a foreign proxy won't keep the government from spying on me, my isp stores my browsing history in it's servers and gives my accumulated information to the Federal Government on Request. And as of this week, the telecomm companies have immunity so wtf can I do.
