The wireless worked fine. The download bar was a precaution because at other conferences we'd been to (around the world) wireless had always been a problem.

Lol, it was half way through the video before I actually realized this was taking place in McNamara. Not surprised you guys had problems with the U's wireless.

Huh, they got my name wrong, along with several other things.
Allow I'm a speaker at many of these conferences, I certainly don't believe that all software should be free. In fact, I advocate the notion that people should use whatever the best tool is, no matter who makes it.
Perl Certainly isn't the first open source programming language. It's not even close to being special in that regard.
Dave Rolsky was the organizer of "Frozen Perl". The Perl Conference is an O'Reilly Media event.
Now I regret agreeing to being part of the film. I know that current changed the video to insert many errors, but I also should have known that they would do that. Maybe the filmmakers can get current to restore the original cut.

Sigh, this looked really good when Gabe showed it to me, but then Current apparently added some random (and incorrect) bits of text to it.
I'm the big guy in the blue t-shirt (you might remember me miming putting in a catheter ;)
A couple major corrections. The Perl community is a mixed group, and some of us are indeed motivated by the Free Software movement ideology, and others are not. The workshop was not organized as a way to promote Free Software, although it may have that effect indirectly.
I'm not sure where current got that idea from. This is a pretty major error.
The purpose of the conference is solely to promote the Perl language and help foster the community around it.
Second, Perl is definitely not the first open source programming language. The C language had free software compilers available long before Perl existed. There were also multiple Lisp interpreters available before Perl, and no doubt numerous other languages.
Finally, a smaller correction, Current made up the term "code-a-thon". We always call it a hackathon (no dashes).
Please note that Gabe & Jacob are not to blame for these errors. Current apparently changed their final cut without telling them.

Well, at least they called us "ultra-elite programmers", I've never been labeled that before...

So cool to have the female programmer talking about being mistaken for a "girlfriend."
