I think Google's plans for the future include using a phone similar to this and having it run off of the 700MHz "C block" Verizon purchased from the FCC in March for $4.74 billion. As part of FCC stipulations of the sale Verizon has to make the frequency available to any device on any network. It is rumored that the 700MHz range will offer far superior data speeds and coverage when compared to 2G, 3G and all other wireless data networks.

People don't seem to understand the significance of this. It's not really about the phone at all. It’s not about T-Mobile. The really groundbreaking thing is the operating system that is loaded on this phone. Despite what people say about Google how they are just doing all this for an opportunity to sell more ads; I actually don't care. Personally I'm sick of the way mobile phones and carriers in the US operate. With Google Android anyone in the world who can do some programming can create a program for this operating system. Essentially it is using the world’s knowledge to improve this technology for everyone. Best of all it's free. The Google Android operating system is free to cell carriers to load on their phones. Unfortunately the carriers I think will be reluctant to use this system because they will be loosing potential revenue from $3 ringtones, $10 games, etc. Overall in my opinion it is a very welcome change to the playing field of the mobile market.

I'm holding off getting an iPhone until I see if anything new looks like taking its place as the king of phones.

Apparently the G1 is gonna be FREE in the UK!
I think that could be a deciding factor in people looking to it as an alternative to the iPhone.
But, I still think there's a few wise people who have said they'll be waiting for the 2nd gen ones.

Awesome, I love it when new gadgets come out so all our old gadgets can end up in landfills. It's even better when they do not actually have any new technology.

I will wait to for the 2nd generation, I heard about this phone last weekend when I was stuck trying to fix my blackberry when people were asking for the "iphone look a like" and the sales person was asking them if they were referring to one called "Dream" I thought these people were crazy lol but now I know what it is.

It looks cool, but the price doesn't.
I'll just wait a few months till there are glitches found, they make a 2nd generation and they sell refurbished 1st generations for cheaper.

Happy to see two great companies working together to make life easier for us. Hopefully it won't cost us our rent money to enjoy a great new device. I-phone was just that and still is with there high service charge.

yea same here, i just got an lg voyager not too long ago and it's been great. i can't keep switching services anytime a new exclusive phone comes out, but since everything google has done so far is extremely top quality, i'm interested to see where this eventually goes...

Another example of how good marketing works. Google conistently provide stuff that people need in an easy to use way. When on earth will everyone else get the fact that to get raving fans you have to treat people just like loyal fans not as a money pit. Google has been doing this for 10 years now and look how all pervasive they are.

Does T-Mobile violate your right to privacy like At&T?
Anyone who sticks with AT&T is silly to me.
It's pouring money back to a company that HATES YOUR FUCKING GUTS and has no qualms in pissing all over you.
But hey, they got the iphone right?
The G1 looks amazing but HTC isn't a great hardware maker. Android is very promising.

The Android G1 looks like a pretty awesome phone, but it's not worth switching to T-Mobile for. Say what you will about ATT, but it's definitely better than T-Mobile!
