Google's co-founder Sergey Brin released a statement, saying that "while there are many objections to this proposition – further government encroachment on personal lives, ambiguously written text – it is the chilling and discriminatory effect of the proposition on many of our employees that brings Google to publicly oppose Proposition 8. While we respect the strongly-held beliefs that people have on both sides of this argument, we see this fundamentally as an issue of equality. We hope that California voters will vote no on Proposition 8 – we should not eliminate anyone's fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love. Because our company has a great diversity of people and opinions – Democrats and Republicans, conservatives and liberals, all religions and no religion, straight and gay – we do not generally take a position on issues outside of our field, especially not social issues."

honestly i think Christians are ruining our country in a big way they censor material getting rid of our first amendment right. This whole gay issue is really stupid why the hell should it even matter when in your eyes they're going to hell anyway so why make them suffer in this life when you believe they will anyway when they die. if they want to "sin" then let them it doesn't affect you or your life so why waste your time on it.

Google is not espousing homosexuality or gay marriage. Google is espousing equality. Simply that. MomofNINE???? NINE??? Momofnine IS espousing INequality, because in order to validate her "faith" in a literal interpretation of a bad translation (in English from the 1600's of a weak Latin text translated from a poor Greek text -- not of the original languages) of a cobbled-together book (put together by a committee of MEN who hated women and sex between 325 and 650 years AFTER Jesus died), she feels the need to PUNISH others who do her NO HARM. You and Hitler, not to put too fine a point on it. You, Momofnine, can justify your behavior and your words all you want, but you DO NOT KNOW. You are not a linguist, not an historian, not a theologian. You believe what almost NO theologians, historians or linguists believe. Want to find out? Really? Read this book, written by a -- ARE YOU READY? -- Christian, white, American medieval scholar and theologian and linguist. (By the way, momofnine, this man is one of THE most respected scholars in his fields in the last 200 years! and the book has so many footnotes IN THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGES that it will make your head spin.) The book is provocatively entitled, 'Christianity, Social Tolerance and Homosexuality.' I dare you to read it and try to have an intelligent discussion with your pastor, who will gufaw and tell you that it's Satan's work and that the man is of no account (so that you'll listen only to him). Go read the book. Then come back and make holier-than-thou comments to us. I dare you. Yours in Christ....

It's great that a mainstream company has put their 2 cents in on something that should not even have graced the floor of the California legislation. More companies need to stand up for what is morally right even if it's unpopular to do so

Please don't respond to this unless you have the nerve to read the WHOLE POST.
This is NOT an excellent choice, Google. Same-sex is sin, whether they are married or not. God says it is wrong in Romans 1:26, 27, 28.5 "They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done."Whether you believe the Bible or not, there has to some basis for what is right and what is wrong...if we just change it to the way we feel, who is to say how you feel is right if it is not the way I feel? What people do in the privacy of their homes is not my business, but the government should not sanction it and give special rights to those who choose to sin.

You really need to take a long look in the mirror and repeat this daily. Do you know any gay people? Do you even TRY to see through their eyes? Don't talk to me about government going hand in hand with religion because after this election, that will be thrown out the window forever!! Obama will win!

Btw I really would like to see an answer to my comments since I am serious about them; I read your full message Please read mine!.
Firstly you have a perfect right to follow your book and your GOD "God says it is wrong in Romans 1:26, 27, 28.5 " - the rest of us don't necessarily have to, even your book and God mentions people have free will.
Sin in your religion may not be for someone else. The United States of America has a separation of church and state.
Marriage can be a sacrament of religion but it doesn't mean that when the government recognizes families as economic and legal units your religion has to, I don't want the government to say who can be married inside of your church anymore that I want your church to say who can be married from the governments side or at any other church.
Its the same arguments that used to be made for interracial marriages being illegal.
Though you may not know it there was a time in some places that Asians, Blacks, Native American, as well as some groups of white Europeans could not marry outside their "perceived race". Baning same-sex marriage makes as much sense.
BTW why is polygamy baned as well... since there are various religions that have that as a tenet.
Please explain to me why legally (I'm sure you believe your religion is the only way to be) no other religion should be acceptable in a "Free" society?
(additionally maybe you should check where the name easter comes from and those eggs rabbits and chicks - or the gifts at "Christmas" time and Christmas trees as well as other traditions that are followed by the mostly so called Christians)

Awesome! Now I know why I've always chosen Google over Yahoo. I wonder if Google's stand against the ban will swing views in their direction? Let's hope so.
