Nevada officials raid office of nonprofit voting rights group

Claiming to be searching for evidence of voter fraud, Nevada state authorities raided the headquarters of a nonprofit organization that helps low-income people vote. A spokesperson for the Nevada secretary of state’s office told The Associated Press that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) has been accused of submitting multiple voter registrations with false names. State agents, according to the news service, took crates of documents from ACORN’s headquarters early this morning.

ACS and the American University Washington College of Law hosted a panel discussion today on obstacles to voting in the 2008 elections. During the discussion, Kristen Clark, assistant counsel in the Political Participation Group of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, said voter fraud accusations are often used to challenge the rights of voters.

Here we go again. Another attempt to quash the democratic vote this coming election. Several states have already had problems and crimes committed concerning voter registration. Is this the Republicans effort to tamper with the election process? or, even the Bush in the WH? I see some more major problems coming from this. I hate to say it, bit it is the rednecks of the USA that are very dissatisfied with the Democratic pick for President becuae of many factors, including his popularity. We need to keep an eye on this and report as much as possible

    • Are you kidding me, ACORN has been subject to numerous investigations for fraudulent voter registration. This organization also just got a huge kickback via the Bailout bill. What, you think just because they are a non-profit organization that they are somehow honest and moral?

    • Here we go again with these "voter fraud investigations". Just another way to disenfranchise democratic and "undesirable" voters. It's been done before... in 2000 and 2004. It's called cadging. Look it up.

      This is plain sad.

      Hopefully TRUE Democracy will prevail.

    • you know what's really sad? that people have to register to be able to vote. that said...acorn is shady as hell and it's employees are guilty of voter fraud across the nation, mostly because they have hired an enormous number of shady people for their registration drive.

    • So is voter fraud by a non-profit should be disregarded? I am watching right now a reporter with 10 registrations for a Monica Ray, all with the same signature but different SSN and addresses. They signed up a 12 year old kid. In Ohio, these registrants voted already! I think it is this obvious diregard for the law and morality that will expose this fraud on a much larger level.

      They'll out play you.

      If only there were people like Robert Keans--fight those that steal what is not theirs. It's far too difficult and time consuming for those that see it to do on their own. People don't have the stubbornness to keep it up until they win. They just have the wind power to voice their opinion and never follow it up with actual actions that mean something.

    • Nevada acts pretty backwards at times, at times it can be way too power hungry. This is what I think after living in Las Vegas for a bit and seeing swarms of police cars every night doing "drills" and being harassed by them. This doesn't surprise me at all but it is good to have the rest of the nation see only a peak of that bullshit.
