Mac to ditch its big button?

As TechDigest comments, "While PCs steadfastly add more and more buttons to mice, Apple is removing its one button!"
I admit I was thrown by the lack of clickiness when I first moved from PC to Mac, but could oversimplicity be a bad thing?

It's not that the button is gone, the whole pad is a button... and I don't mean tap-to-click, i mean the whole damn thing is a clicky-clicky mouse button.

I have a Vista desktop and couldn't be happier. It works with every program I've ran so far, and it does everything I need it to do. I won't switch to a Mac unless, for some reason, I am actually convinced the operating system and the hardware are actually somehow "superior" to my machine now. I'll buy a Windows based laptop and probably a Windows based smart phone when necessary. I don't see how Macs are so much better. I'm an IT student so my Desktop and Laptop are extremely important to me, and I don't think I could work with a MAC after so much time on a PC.

Find a friend with one and see if you can borrow it for a day or so, or rent one from someplace.
As an IT pro., you will benefit from having a native UNIX OS as opposed to having to use stuff like Putty. And OS X can interact with Windows machines pretty easily. I RDC to Windows machines all the time.
And see if anyone you know who has a Mac has put XP or Vista on their Mac using BootCamp. Windows runs flawlessly on a Mac.

Oh, the classic PC vs Mac debate.
I own a Mac. I will never go back to a PC. Plus, Macs are superior for graphics programs. The people that really benefit are graphic designers.
I read an article one time that was written by a computer tech at a electronics store. A person sent in a question asking about how to avoid computer problems. His answer? "I would probably be fired for saying this, but buy a mac."
Yeah, they're a bit pricey, but it's worth it. So much easier than Windows....and Bill Gates failed at stealing Tiger (since vVsta came out before Leopard...which is fantastic, btw) and using the same concepts for Vista.

You mean a lower one? The power Cord on my mom's laptop broke within three months. The case as cracked as Death Valley, and it suffers constant problems with overheating and power failure. PC laptop problems are usually caused by Vista.

I'm a sysadmin, and I use a mac because it's a native UNIX OS, which makes my life easier.... tell me what part of Windows is good for working with *nix environments? Oh, and I can remote desktop to just about any Windows PC without any major headaches as well, for those clients of mine who like Win Server for some reason.

I love comments like yours.
If you don't see the difference that is okay but I assure you, there is a huge difference and the price is worth it.

PC doesn't always mean windows, thought that's what people mostly think of.but even windows can be smooth if you fix a few things.

I think we should give Apple the benefit of the doubt. Unlike Microsoft which seems to make everything worse year after year, Apple generally makes things run faster and smoother.
My Mac laptop died (after 8 years) and I bought a cheap Windows laptop.
Worst...product...ever!
Although I do enjoy the 7 mins of downtime I have while I wait for the damn thing to wake up from sleep mode. Thanks Vista!
Going from Apple to Microsoft is a lot like going from the wealthy suburbs in America to a 3rd world refugee camp.
First you reel in horror at the poverty of the the operating system and then your overcome with sadness when you realize that millions of people have to work with this thing everyday!
I have a new Mac now and I will never take it for granted again.

I couldn't say how I liked it unless I used it. Macs are good at being pretty intuitively designed so I doubt it'll be a bad thing.

Luckily you can turn it off because it is horrible.

I'm in favor of it. I've been on a mac since 4th grade when floppy disks were still floppy. I barely use the mouse button on my powerbook or macbook pro. There's so much you can do with just the track pad and a couple of fingers.

The guys over at Mashable don't think this new laptop is all that great. It's just... a laptop. And I'm not sure I could get used to not having a track pad button. That would drive me nuts... on par with the mighty mouse.
