Things must be getting pretty dire indeed if Amazon is cutting delivery prices but, as a gadget-obsessed consumer, I'm not complaining.
From now on, as long as you spend over £5 on Amazon UK, delivery will be free. This is down from the previous minimum spend of £15. It also points to the impact of 'free delivery' rivals
Amazon's last cut was waaaaaaay back in 2005, when the minimum threshold was dropped from £19 to £15.
Brian McBride, MD of Amazon UK, said it's all about boosting sales in the run-up to the Silly Season:
"It's to get people lifted for Christmas. Times are tough out there and this will come as a welcome bonus for people."
Amazon UK is also pushing its Prime customer service, where a yearly payment of £49 gets you unlimited free one-day delivery.

I agree with nellolivia - this was a very smart move on their part. I won't lie, after I read this story I went right to the amazon website ...

This is a great response to the credit crisis. One of the first things people cut back on is luxuries like books. Amazon's £15 limit for free deliveries was there to get higher order values. Now they need to work harder to get your order so lowering htis charge gets them loads more orders and gets them in the news.
Great move Amazon! And very brave
