Playing Mirrors Edge will make you throw up

Mirrors Edge has got my stomach churning with anticipation.

Some will call it a carefully orchestrated viral campaign, but it seems that two independent reviewers have found that playing Mirrors Edge induces travel sickness. Clive Thompson at Wired describes the effect, "Only 15 minutes into the game, my mouth began overproducing saliva, and I had to pause the action for a few seconds to avoid carsickness."

The guys over at Penny Arcade had a similar effect. I wonder what playing this game would feel like if you wore VR glasses?

    • I gotta get me some of those shoes. I've usually gone out on the city roofs in Pumas, but those shoes look like they put Pumas to shame. Anyone know if they might be for sale? Mad props to the game Mirror's Edge.

    • It's my game of the year. It never once made me motion sick. People who do have weak stomachs. Also, there's a ballerina dot/reticle on the screen for a reason.

    • I think that the problem is that when you get immersed in the game your eyes tell you your body is doing one thing, but your inner ear tells you another, so you get dizzy.

This game should come with a barf bag.

    • I like video games like that, but i have to go for Gears of war 2, Fallout 3, and resistance 2. Mirror's edge is very unique, a concept that I have never seen before, in all my days of playing video games..

    • I'm generally not a negative commenter, but to BFAM_RVS, if you are really into free running you would not be so inconsiderate as to say it's not hard at all. Show me 15 people out of 100 who can run directly at a wall, run vertically 4 feet, reverse direction, jump off and grab something and hang on. Hell show me your average sports fan that with a running start that could clear a 10 foot gap. I love real free running and parkour, wish I could do it, but whatever it is you call the free running you do must equate to no more than a wall plant for you to call it easy.

    • I have the game and seriously...
it is the coolest, most awesome game I have ever played!!

It close to feeling as if you're really in a Virtual World.

But becoming nauseous by playing it...well I haven't experienced it.

    • No matter how good this game is watching the real thing always makes me think that we are evolving - getting bigger, better, faster, (stupider?). Ha.

A health a safety nightmare, good on anyone with the berries to give it a go.

    • Didn't bother me... honestly I wasn't impressed by it even. The trailers made it look really cool and fun, but I think its more fun to watch then play.

    • played it last night...no car sickness or anything. I think if you have that effect from Mirrors Edge youd probably get nauseous from a lot of FPS games (especially certain parts in Portal).

that said I like the game although the level design feels a bit jankey. still fun....its just hard to figure out what to do sometimes. I also which there was a playback mode where you could watch yourself in third person...it would just be awesome to watch yourself running about....like a super gorgeous parkour video

    • Amazing game. I'm using the Gamestop promo bag as I type this.

I've never gotten motion sickness from this game, but I can see how it's possible. In fact, it's surprising that we saw Cloverfield in the same year, which is the same basic idea in the context of a film.

    • The concept of the game is unique. Problem is is that the game is entirely first person view and when you jump wall to wall, you're looking directly straight at it which causes uncomfortable viewing. I can see why this game will make you throw up.

    • a parkourish game...barf, go outside and do it for yourself people it's much better for you. And not hard at all, it just takes time and commitment. I really enjoy free running, just wish the city officials felt the same way about my sport as I do.

    • I own it and the only thing it makes me want to do is run off of buildings and slide underneath exposed pipes and or staircases.

      I LOVE THIS GAME!

    • This game is so realistic. I'm pretty sure any gamer who gave urban running / parkour a turn in real life would feel sick too.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that running in general gives gamers motion sickness?
