This "cloud" of high-speed Internet connectivity that MiFi offers can be shared not only between users, but between devices such as laptops, cameras, gaming devices and multimedia players. Perfect for carpooling and relieving boredom in the back seat during that long road trip with kids - think Nintendo DS or Sony PSP - the MiFi will support up to five users simultaneously.
In addition to being a portable Internet hotspot, the EVDO blog notes that the MiFi has an onboard Linux processor capable of hosting software applications and additional content storage capabilities via MicroSD.
Novatel claims the internal battery will provide over forty hours standby and up to four hours of active use on a single charge, and that certain configurations will support applications like auto VPN, automatic syncing of e-mail and remote management capabilities.
The MiFi will be available in the first quarter of 2009 through a variety of retail outlets and Engadget reports the MiFi should be priced under $300.

Rather than having to locate a hot spot; you become the hot spot. Very zen. I can't wait to host a cloud.

Most of these people dont get the whole point of the device which is to "relay" g3 to your current wifi devices. It does make you sick when you see the network they have in europe and the incredible devices they have in Japan as compared to what we have.

This is the best way to make sure everyone gets 3G across the U.S. If everyone has a small 3G router device (possibly built into things that they already buy like watches and cellphones) then it will spread the 3G network from urban to rural instead of everyone having to wait for the infrastructure to be built.

The technology that they have is nothing compared to what they could have if they were not chained to the house the Government built.
This is cool, none-the-less.

That means, if I have an iphone 3G and an ipod touch, can the router be used to provide internet access to the ipod touch during that car journey? Assuming, ipod touch has the capability to feed off MiFi router.

what it allows you to do is share 3g among multiple devices in one spot that arent 3g capable, just like a wireless router hooked up to a cable or dsl modem.

sounds to me like it's going to act like a series of network extenders.
You have that device and you are using EDVO at 80% reception, that means that some guy at 400 meters from you should receive the signal at 60% (totally made up numbers) but instead, he'll get it at 79% because you are relaying the original EDVO signal. he's not connected to the original point or origin but to a closer one.
So what's in it for you, the guy with the device? I'd say better reception though that than through your cell phone.

You already could have internet almost anywhere... From this description, this just allows you to share the 3G internet in a small area...
