Some might say that this has been long overdue, given Channel 4 and the BBC's on-demand services have proved so successful, but the new deal will give up to 3.5m customers the opportunity to catch up on such televisual treats as Coronation Street and Emmerdale...
Reports also claim that there will be a selection of ITV HD content made available through the player and that Virgin subscribers will also be able to watch content over the internet.
Isn't this all a bit long overdue though? iPlayer's been up and running for years...

Great news for me because I've got Virgin TV, especially Mum, who occasionally miss her soaps (Emmerdale and Coronation Street).

A belated release, the iPlayer has also led to renewed concerns that the internet could grind to a halt due to growing demand for online TV services. Though i'm sure that's an exaggeration it gonna be a treat to see what cards the traditional platforms have up their sleeve.

I agree it's over due, but still pleased they are doing it. I'm a big Coronation Street fan but can't remember the last time I used my VCR and haven't got a V plus box, so it'll be great for me ;-)
