There was a person in Florida that developed a hover craft to be used on the roads. It was not given a license because it could not brake well.

Sounds far fetched to me. Are we all gonna fly in line? What about car/plane theft? You ever seen a high speed chase? Talk about legal consequences. What would a mid pit maneuver look like?

A flying car doesn't do much good if you have to go to the airport to take off and land.
when my driveway becomes the airstrip, then I'll care.

Dude, I can see it now - a cop tries to pull you over for speeding in one of those. You just hit the highway and use it like a runway!

1.- More expensive
2.- More dangerous
3.- Needs thorough training
4.- Small market
5.- Requires costly infrastructure (a chopper would do better) - 3 years ago

Another article about flying cars? So this is the article #99999999 since 1977? And I understand this is 2009 and quote "Transition is close to becoming the first vehicle..." etc. etc. Just the ooold same story for years and years it's been the same, just another story and nothing else.

Flying is not economical, until you travel over a large distance. Thus the economics of a multipurpose vehicle used primarily for commuting firmly relegated it to novelty status. The people that need to fly today Already do!

The U.S.and Canadian governments have been collaborating on a similar project for a few years with no real results. Glad to see a independent company advance technology for real results. The only thing I would worry about is hidden power lines that could bring it down because of an inexperienced flyer/driver.

Flying will ALWAYS require extensive training.
That's why it won't be that practical except for a small niche, people who already fly light aircraft but don't like to purchase rental cars when they land at a small airport.

I rather have a car/helicopter than a car/plane.
Stuck in rush hour traffic? Just kick on the rotors and you can clock in on time! With a plane, you need room to gather speed for takeoff.

people suck at driving as it is, imagine them flying and crashing, into buildings, other cars and falling onto the freeway, its a great idea but the practice is near impossible for now

I just hope nobody flies one into a building. Then we will have to go thru TSA security before we can take off in one. :-(

can't really just pull over and fix a flat. But at least it comes with a really really loud horn so you can warn the little rugrats on the soccer field to scatter because your coming in hot from the grocery store and their all too busy playing stupid soccer on your landing strip. Beep Beep "get out of the way! I'm gonna put it down!"

I'd rather see fully electric cars before I see flying cars. This is neat though.

there were full electric cars in 1909.
The best possible solution is some sort of hybrid where you plug it in to charge it up but can still use some sort of liquid fuel for distance travel.

I don't think the picture is computer generated. In any case, you can see the real life thing in the video. That's what's new about this. This car has been made and is being prepared for sale.

Whats the MPG? Although its an extremely alluring concept for the future of transportation, I just don't see this making headway over the increasing problem of diminishing fossil fuels and global warming among other things.

The article says that, as it car, it goes 30mpg. As a plane, if you do the math, it gets 25mpg.

I don't think the safety risk inherent in flying small light aircraft would ever make it feasible as a replacement for airlines or driving.

NOT THE 1ST!!!!!!!!!!!
there was an open university program on not so long ago presented by james may where it touched on this topic
James says: “Flying cars are an idea that has been around for 100 years. I do believe one day we will move around in the sky. There is this vast space above our heads, what we need to do is to find an easy and safe way to move around it, and we have not done it yet."
in this episode he featured a flying car from the 1930s(i think) but he actualy was able to fly it today!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_car_(aircraft)
the licenses needed are ridiculous!
NB: its on sunday 18th jan 09 if anyones interested!

I saw a james bond with a flying car, from 1970s.

it was street legal retard, READ the link i sent and watch the program tomorrow!
also the statement about all the licenses needed being ridiculous was in reference in to what was involved to make it legal for the driver/pilot to run it on the road and on air!
and good for you watching james bond, but it was actually scaramanga in the man with the golden gun who flew the flying car, not james bond *thumbs up*
