I thought this was old news? hence many mp3s now have 'safe volume' limits within their settings (though I always end up turning that way up cos BBC podcasts are way too quiet).

The generation of 'tinnitus and hearing deficiency' isn't really a topic for medical debate, this quite simply isn't news. It's been happening for years, both myself and close friends have become victims of crankin' it up.

Just a FYI. It isn't JUST music that causes hearing loss. Anything that is loud, such as driving with the window down and living on a runway.

This will sound like a paid endorsement(it's not) but I had to special-order a pair of KOSS Pro 4 AA's (best headphones ever made) because NOBODY was keeping anything that High Quality in stock anymore...(They've been making them since the 1970s) & it may look silly, but I use 'em with My ipod, as well as My Home Stereo System...& started damaging My hearing in the "70s" as well...nuthin' new here...

I would stick with regular headphones and not the in-ear ones at this point.

Like I said in the last article that was posted on this topic.
Buy better headphones and keep the volume lower as a result of better sound isolation. The people that generally blast music to extremely loud levels are people that just can't feel music through their earbuds...
YOU NEVER WILL, THEY'RE HEADPHONES!
But you can at least get closer by spending some money instead of using those garbage stock headphones that come with.

I suggest Skull Candy. Even at "0" volume, you can hear the song playing.

Well, its all on how loud you play your music. Our ears are just like our feet. They calus when they are continually hit with sound waves that have higher wavelengths. Thats what happens when you blast Slipknot too much! :O

I listen to my music WAY too loud, but it's not just on my Mp3 player... I listen to music way too loud in cars, in my bedroom, when I'm deejaying, when I'm at a club. Basically whenever and wherever there's music and me, it's normally too loud.
I don't think these German doctors and me could be friends.

Hmm, if its even "too loud" for YOU, then why do you put the volume at that setting?

excuse me....ahh.... ah... mr. d. j.... sir.... could you... umm please turn it down a smidge.... my cochlea is getting balder by the minute.....
grow a pair.
THE SOLUTION IS: wearing the over-ear headphones when you listen to your mp3 player and wearing those funky ear-protecting sponges that you twist up in your eartunnel. OR you can crank that sh*t to be able to hear over the background noise that the over-ear model blocks out of your listening experience AND enjoy the pure sounds of your favorite band or DJ filtered through sound-refining memory foam....however, this is not a solution I subscribe to.
