Scientists like Obama's environmental plan

Environmentalists are encouraged by President Barack Obama's focus this week on renewable energy and stricter emissions standards, although some economists are skeptical he can pull the country out of the recession while cleaning up the planet.

    • FACT - after WWII we have built our economy on wastefulness, in all aspects of production and usage of the worlds natural resources.

simply stated, if we are to continue to be the beacon for change, we need to go deep with in our ideas, and think tanks, and clearly rework our infrastructure, and resource usage in all areas, land, water, minerals, trees, food, etc.. to right the wrongs, and the world will follow in our efforts.

"Free thinking minds promoting change, restricted by closed minds continuing business as usual, will ultimately lead to world resource destruction"

we have no choice but to change or ideas, and way of life as we know it, for if we do not, science will prove as it has for hundreds of years, that we are indeed on the wrong path, and yet, we still have not the courage to change, complain enough, protest or boycott, how we use resources enough to make a difference. Do not rely on your government to make it change, as the government is backed by Business PACs, whom candidates souls belong too.

it is only LOGICAL to full advantage of renewable resources - namely solar, to give us an edge, as we have clearly approached the edge of stubborness and greed by companies not will to stop it, and bring us back from a point or extinction threshold, yet push us over it... why???? this is very puzzling - other than the fact that GREED and profit motivates business decisions, and truly is the real evil coupled with humanities deeply ingrained idea that there is no other option available, when really, there is.

Real change only happens when after something drastic happens first - this is what is most saddening to me...

On a positive note, it's GOOD that Obama states he will do this or that, as I welcome change in the area of resource usage big time.

    • After eight years of Bush anything would be applauded... which is the problem. Even mediocre looks good. Anyone who supports 'clean coal' doesn't have a good environmental plan. And GM foods are NOT GOOD SCIENCE. But again, anyone who got in after Bush only has to say I like science to get a hand. Let's see some real action now and not more bowing to special interests.

The planet doesn't give a shit about climate change or the environment it will survive without us. Helping the environment is helping people. Environmental issues are health issues and they are economical issues. If we have polluted air we will die. If we run out of fresh water we will die. If we continue to clear cut forests destroy ecosystems and kill off animal populations we will compromise our own existence.

Well said hersheleh. That reminds me of a prophecy by the Cree Indians, popular with Greenpeace back in the 80's already:
When all the trees have been cut down,
when all the animals have been hunted,
when all the waters are polluted,
when all the air is unsafe to breathe,
only then will you discover you cannot eat money.
