Ok, first I have to freak out a bit about the fact that something so heinous exists. What kind of F**KED up person is going to buy this and play this?
"Players begin the game by stalking a mother on a subway station before violently raping her. They then move on to attack her two daughters described as virgin schoolgirls. Players are also allowed to enter 'freeform mode' where they can rape any woman and get other male game characters to join the attacks. Pregnancy and abortion are listed as 'key features'. One review said: "If she does become pregnant you're supposed to force her to get an abortion, otherwise she gets more and more visibly pregnant each time you have sex.
"If you allow the child to be born then the woman will throw you in front of a train!"

My mother called me out of the SHOWER. When this came on NBC. She was utterly disgusted and shocked. I told her that it WAS, but I wasn't shocked. I speak Japanese, I'm going for the summer. You learn these things. Not everyone is like that. Just creepy people in Akihabara.
Japan has an unfortunate like of rape and BDSM games. This is just the only game to actually state what it is about in the title "Rapeplay" instead of some creepy pedophile-ish title that "Marshmallow Beach" or something. The Japanese government doesn't want to deal with these thigns though, that's why it is rampant. - 3 years ago

Strange how rape is off-limits, but violently killing people is fair game.

I'd probably play it. Don't act like you haven't killed random henchmen in MGS and given their lifeless bodies a good teabag crouch hump in the corner.

i have absolutely no interest in rape ok but when i read this post went and downloaded it off utorrent and i played it to see what its actually like and in my opinion its no where near as nasty as watching rape depicted with real people in films such as I spit on your grave.
japan has a hugely different culture to ours, they only outlawed child porn in 1998, the minimum age of consent is 13!
its my opinion that so long as you dont cause any harm to others then you can do what you like and playing a cartoon like rape game does no harm

This isn't a case of whether or not to defend the right of the creators to who made this 'game'. Those who are so quick to jump to defend or to damn fail to realize the point here (or at least the point as I see it)
The question is whether or not there even IS a line left to cross. in this Huxley-ian New World we live in IS there a line?
If so, where?
If not, are conversations like this even viable, even allowed?
we have to agree on this before we can damn or defend the creators. Now I believe there IS a line. Not "there should be", but "there IS". And products such as these cross that line. Is there morality in the marketplace? Overtly, no. Subversively, yes. The evidence being that Amazon dropped the product, and that the product is no where to be found at any major outlet. This rigorous conversation also proves that there is some sort of morality here. If not, this whole thing would have been a mute point. I think morality is left only to play a subversive role in commerce and politics in this post-PC world.
Neither extreme work. Not total fascist suppression, nor complete disregard and openness. We have seen both in past decades and we have seen both collapse upon itself. This isn't mere hyperbole, this is what we have to start becoming aware of and start thinking about, especially in situations like this, the selling of rape simulators.

Owwmykneecap:
Honestly, I think I agree with Owwmykneecap.
It's a game...sick and twisted as it may be.
I'm sure the people buying/playing this game already have issues for the simple fact of being interested in this. Just because we think something is wrong doesn't mean we should run out and make new laws against video games/music/movies and the like. - 3 years ago

If sraevos is right then should anyone who has committed and been convicted of a sexual or violent crime towards women be able to submit proof and ID and receive a 25 percent discount on the game?!?

this is disgusting, whoever invented this game is some kind of twisted freak who obviously has no regard for women whatsoever. this game should be illegal, never mind being dropped from amazon

This is disgusting. I know the cultures different in Japan but rape shouldn't be accepted in any culture.

This is one of the most disgusting things I have ever heard. The fact that something like this simply exists makes me extremely angry. I don't care what the 'culture' is - there is no society in the world that should support this.

Hm, at what point does morality define a free market? I guess at this point for most people.
This argument had been made countless times and will be made countless more. These guys only raised the bar.
Like any capitalist market a need was present and a company came a filled that need.
If you really wanted to do some good, you would arrest anyone who bought said game for committing...uh that crime about practicing heinous crimes on your television.
I mean come on guys this is the strength and weakness of both the internet and capitalism. You find stuff you need, stuff you don't need, and stuff you wish you hadn't seen.
You know some cultures see us (USA) as self righteous obese prudes. Japan is investing in America's debt on a billion USD scale. Let's not piss them off too much...

Honestly, I thought this story was so unbelievable. It's absolutely disgusting and I can't even describe in words how I feel about this.
All I know is that despite there being a fight to get rid of this game from the UK's Amazon, why not just get rid of it for good? How can anything like this be acceptable even, as SW2 says this is their culture. Can we decimate this part of their culture? Can we help people realize that this is not ok?

Let me begin by saying how utterly and fundamentally disgusted I am by the very FACT that this game exists, let alone has been sold by a Mega-store such as Amazon.com. I came across this article on another site (Kotaku.com) and am glad someone posted it here so that the Current audience would be aware of this. After the initial shock of the story my rage began building once I realized that not only did someone(s) think of this idea as a game, they financed (or got someone else to) the development of it, the advertising, the marketing, and the distribution. Not just that, but to put out a ‘game’ like this meant that somewhere there is a niche market for this. That other stores (such as Overstock.com and Ebay, currently) are STILL carrying this item, and that there are other ‘games’ in this ‘genre’ guarantees that this isn’t an isolated incident. After the rage subdued (and by subdued, I mean lowered to a level where I can function as I am now) I realized that this isn’t just a simple case of what is and isn’t acceptable in society (not just ours as citizens of _________, but as citizens of the world community) it becomes a philosophical question of what is and isn’t accepted now. We are disgusted by the mere existence of this ‘game’, yet not only allow but are completely desensitized to graphic violence, sadism and murder in games such as ‘Gears of War’, ‘Grand Theft Auto’, and the rest of the clichéd usual suspects. I say the following as a “gamer” having been playing, and advocating the validity of the medium since I was young: I now empathize with those out there that would take this case and use it as an example of the damning presence of video games in general. Though I can now empathize with those people I am in no way agreeing with them, you can’t lump the credibility of an entire medium by the actions of one product in that medium the way you can’t argue that all of Film is vulgar based on the Porn Industry. My fear is that, like violence in video games, if ‘games’ like this continue to not only be created but validated by being offered on Amazon.com we will eventually be desensitized to rape simulators. I do not want to live in a world where we are desensitized to that.

You have to understand the culture to understand why something like this comes about.
Hentai and violent rape porn is part of their culture, even as stomach churning as that thought is!
