Just reach for the panic button, hit it, and the potential damage will be avoided. Sleep on it, then decide if you still want to send the message. You enable it by going to gmail labs and it's in the settings.
I think this is a much needed, long overdue invention!

I hate Gmail... but they're onto something with this. Five seconds probably isn't enough though. Having said that, you don't really want to spend more than five seconds sending emails that you're sure about....

FTW, they should allow you to delete your email from the recipient's inbox, as long as all recipients are also gmail users.

Actually, it lasts much longer than 5 seconds. Or so it seems. When you first hit send and gmail is doing its "sending", there is a "cancel" button. Then for a few more seconds after it says the "message has been" sent there is an "undo" button. So I'd say there is sufficient time to decide whether or not the email shouldnt have been sent.

Just send a out-of-my-head e-mail. If you get the fuzzy feelings when pressing send, that's where the panic button comes in (though on a laptop's touchpad, you need some skill to point properly).

It usually takes me a few minutes to regret, and my reflexes aren't fast enough for just 5 seconds.

This is awesome - but I think it should be like 10 seconds to hit...for an extra "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" reaction.

Nice...
So you only have 5 seconds to change your mind??
I don't see how a person could change their mindset within 5 seconds...SERIOUSLY!!!
But for those who have "SPEEDY" thinking even under the influence this might be cool :-)

5 seconds is pretty impractical. its almost like its a novelty item. what if you realize you shouldn't have sent something a few minutes after? you're screwed...
