    • I think Capcom absolutely spanked it with SFIV. It's like taking a step back in time and playing Street Fighter 2 when it first came out, but with up to date (Amazing looking) graphics and some new characters and attacks to keep it fresh. The 3D animation only comes in to play to enhance the special attacks and doesn't interfere with the back to 2D fighter approach that serves SFIV so well. This is a must for the collection and the only thing i've got left to do is beat JCX!

    • Well where do I start? This game for an entire generation was the no.1 beat’em up. There was nothing more satisfying than absolutely destroying your friend or opponent!! For a 2D game it had everything, well so I thought?!.... Firstly the new game is brilliant & amazing!...

Now in late 2008 the return of the greatest beat’em returned on the PS3 & Xbox 360, but in 3D form. Once you get past the exceptional manga/in-game/art sketched intro, which is amazing & one of the best I’ve seen for a long time.

You return to the “World Warriors Championship”, which I am glad to say very little has changed, but has been vastly improved with great touches, exceptional & cinematic game play. The most noticeable thing is the smoothness of graphics & scenery, as well as the newly 3D perception. The one thing that has been immensely improved is the combinations & finishing moves available to each character, which make it all the more beautiful when you win a hard thought battle.

If like me you always stuck to your comfort zones of “Ken & Ryu” this version, gets you testing your SF4 skills as the other various characters, which hasn’t changed but the additional characters of Rufus, Abel are very fun. However if you are very good at the game, you will be able to release Akuma, Gouken & the ultimate character Seth. (Who has to be one of the best final bosses I have encountered in a long time!)

Like I said it’s not just the game play that excels in this very modern up to date version, the various mini-games & challenges has improved, as well as the gallery & endings of the each character has a considerable amount of detail.

For me this game has come full circle & risen from the ashes better than any better beat’em up out there, & that includes Super Smash Bros. I think the only thing that could topple it, would be Capcom vs. SNK?!

Well we will have wait see, until next time gamers! Holla!....

    • I loved it. Great gameplay, graphics.... but the whole "Pay for extra costumes that should have been in the game" is to be honest insulting....

    • As far as I can remember when Street Fighter 2 first came out in the early 90's this game has to be the king of all beat'em ups. Street fighter has developed over the years, being a beat'em up fan myself and playing over the whole collection of Street Fighter games out there this game has to be the best.

First are the graphics, when I first saw the screenshots for this I was compleately blown away by these. Clean, clear graphics by adding more detail to the backgrounds, for example Guile's stage where the jet fighter is in the background while the spectators are cheering you on I recently compared it with the old screenshots from all of the streetfighter games and my say is that a lot of work has been put in for this one, while in Street fighter 3 Next Generation the graphics were just starting to get the feel of mixing 2D and 3D together.

The gameplay is still the same 3 punches and 3 kick buttons, but there is one new control allignment and this is the 'Focus Attack'. this is where the player can stun or preform extra hits with special move just by pressing it. all of a while the super combo, ultra combo attacks have to be the thing of the past by having a clear indication of the CPU characters reactions and impressions when the ultra combo move has been pulled off.

My overall winner of the game has to be the online mode, I have never ever spent more time on my console with any game that had online mode. this has to be one of the most brilliant piece of gaming I have ever wittnesed. here you can create a profile, add your titles, icons, send invites to your friends and even place your winning bouts to the ranking table. Trust me time will fly when you are having fun with this I started at 9pm and didn't finish at around 1am.

Street Fighter 4 is THE MOST best beat'em up game of all and yes Capcom have done it again by adding another legend to their roster. Hopfully other game companies out there will learn and develop their own fighting games in this sort of style. As this has proved to bring a new genre of 3D fighting games to the 21st Centuary.

    • My review of SFIV is up at geeksofdoom.com... Here's an excerpt:

"Capcom haven’t been able to match the original Street Fighter 2’s quality for a long time (the closest they came for me was Street Fighter Alpha 2), and in the development of their latest release; Street Fighter IV, you can tell they’ve gone back to the roots of the series. Capcom did attempt delving into the world of a 3D Street Fighter before, with the Street Fighter Ex series – these, although good in their own right, were overshadowed by games like Tekken and Dead or Alive.

Street Fighter IV isn’t strictly a 3D game though – there’s no sidestep or dodge option a-la Tekken & Soul Calibur (is it bad that the deliberate miss-spelling of Calibre still annoys me?). SFIV’s 3D aspects are purely aesthetic, and I personally think this makes the game much better. It cuts out the over-complicated aspects of 3D fighters, and gets back to the bare bones of caving your opponent’s face in....

...From the opening introduction, the game’s visuals don’t fail to impress - while playing through the arcade mode, you’re treated to some anime sequences when viewing a character’s story and ending. These, although a little spartan on animation sometimes, are still much more welcome than the static images of old. And it seems the storyline for each character has had a facelift too, but this is most likely to help incorporate the game’s newcomers."

Obviously check out http://geeksofdoom.com for the full review. :)

    • I havent played street fighter IV, but i don't really want to :/ Although im sure it's a laugh with mates, its not what i look for in a single player game, and not the way id spend forty quid.

Im more into intense cinematic gameplay tbh, although i can appreciate the appeal of sf4 for some people, it just gets a meh from me.

its not the genre thats unappealing to me, I can remember getting quite into tekken back on the PS2, playing Jin, kicking my way through countless marines; but i think its the colourful anti-gravity animated combat that puts me off street fighter.

    • It's funny... I waited a long, long time for this game to come out. But when I got my hands on it I was sort of unimpressed.

It felt just like all the previous Street Fighter games, great graphics, great controls, great everything, but just couldn't keep me engaged. I kept putting it down to play other games. Sort of like the new Resident Evil, good, but not good enough.

Don't get me wrong, Street Fighter IV is still a great game. Maybe my taste in games has changed over the years? Or maybe Capcom is losing their touch...

    • With a twelve year gap between Street Fighter III and Street Fighter IV you would expect the game to be far from it’s predecessors in graphics and gameplay but the game is everything but.

I will take a quote straight from the back of the games package. “Street Fighter is back and packed with genre-defining 2D gameplay, stunning 3D graphics, and iconic characters battling all-new fighters.” This could not be any more truthful then what the game actually is.

Right away when I began playing the game I remembered the old days of playing Street Fighter two on an old arcade machine at a local restaurant, and even now all these years later that same great gameplay that so many of us loved is still there.

With online gameplay and various challenge modes and unlockable characters coupled with a fun classic 90’s gameplay style Capcom has an ultra combo that will give you a K. O.
