Twitter fights back with rival to Facebook Connect!

Twitter has introduced a Facebook Connect competitor dubbed "Sign in with Twitter" , that allows users to log in to third-party sites with their Twitter user name and password.

These online social networks are growing their services so quickly that I'm not even sure what Facebook Connect is..?!?

According to Media Post:
Like Facebook Connect, the service allows other sites and applications that are already integrated with Twitter to authenticate users more easily. While many Twitter applications already allow users to log in using their names and passwords through the Twitter API, the new feature offers a more secure alternative because third-party developers don't handle passwords.

That should help the micro-blogging service increase trust with its fast-growing user base, according to the Inside Facebook blog, as it builds the latest platform connecting the social Web.

    • I connected one of my Myspace accounts to Ilike.com,Twitter & greencow.ning.com! I also have a friend tracker loaded in! This means that I have one social network that is like five in one! From all the sites I liked I also linked those with other sites I use! Now I can get from site with little effort at all! (slow computer doesn't help any,but the system still works!)

    • Brilliant! I hope "they" extend this to not just Twitter clients and the like, but to other arbitrary services in which I can use my Twitter login. Like leaving comments on blogs for example. That'd grab me an avatar and URL and name and stuff automatically, if someone would code that.

    • Oooh, this sounds really interesting.

There's been a lot of talk about Facebook Connect and how it's impacted/going to impact how we use the web.

I saw a talk at the Future of Web Apps expo late last year by the Zuckerberg himself, below are a few of my notes.

      Overview:
      To integrate user more
Add social context (i.e involve friends more)
To give you an identity (Facebook Connect pulls your FB personal info and can be used to display your info on other sites/log you into those sites)

I'd also written that Zuckerberg seemed a 'bit wet' but what I meant by that, I'm not sure....
