i believe that's what they call "free market" unfortunately. i know lots of bio chemists out of work - which always blows me away. all because fresh college kids will work for dirt to build there resume- now the internships are rising because companies can get work for free that way- not efficient usually- but its free. depressing.

    • Many of these companies are posting profits in the millions, if not billions. It's irresponsible for a company to layoff people to help their stock price. These employees are PEOPLE, many with families. It's well known that over 30% of the 5,000 Microsoft layoffs this year are married couples who both work for the company. Microsoft reported revenues of $16.6 billion in ONE recent quarter. Companies who lay off employees unnecessarily are part of the economic problem, not the solution. There should be a limit to the number of employees a company can layoff if their profits exceed five million.

    • Companies are just getting rid of the fat while they can guilt free. Most technical employees are lazy jack asses. They forget they are there to work not to play games or complain about the "stupid" end-users. We lost 10 of our 14 technical staff and the funny thing about that is the same amount of work is being done. Maybe it's time for them to advance their education and attitude next round. I am sure this is not the case for ALL but most in my honest opinion. Most of the lay-offs where non-productive people from Canada, not sure that matters but it's strange.

Network engineer AKA Help Desk. Dime a dozen bro, should have picked something more specialized like programming. I mean anyone can make a network cable and configure a Cisco.

I have a LOT of friends in the feild, up to directeor of IT at large cable companies, that brag about how much they get away with and how they hate end users and blah-blah. Your personal experience is great and everything but it's obviously not the norm.
