David French may be the guy who saves the world from an asteroid when it comes hurtling down from space.

French, a doctoral candidate in aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU), has thought up a way to divert asteroids and other threatening objects from hitting the earth.

Just by attaching a long tether and ballast to the incoming object 'you change the object's centre of mass, effectively changing the...(Continue Reading Article: http://linkbee.com/DeflectAsteroids)

    • This is BS. There is a theoretical tether, so long that no material could hold itself together; and too long to even be produced and too weak to do the job.

However, the real way is to calculate the orbital path and the motion, along with the center of gravity, etc, and place a pressure against the object that pushes it into a gyration. The so created rotor, like an out-of-balance football, changes the path arc.

That's - how you do it.
