one wonders if you can reverse engineer one of these contraptions for mind controll

Nah, these things take concentration and practice to operate voluntarily. It would take decades of development to pick up thoughts involuntarily, and that's just mind reading. Control, that would have to be done through coercion. You saw the Matrix? It's no different from that.
There would of course, be laws against using it without consent... - 3 years ago

If they can do this isn't it possible to send simple messages to others in which case they can "read your mind", Like telepathy

No, A computer reading the reactions your brain has to certain emotional states is quite different from your brain actually being inputted by an exterior device. The brain is not directly connected to the computer, the computer is just sensing and essentially guessing what you're thinking using complex mathematical equations

Unless of course, a trodenet is engineered to give feedback as well as recieve input (which they will be). It's entirely possible that within 20 years you'll have a "telepathic" conversation. You probably won't even use word-thoughts, just emotions.

Why not? It's just electrodes, like the stuff they use to monitor your heartbeat.

I experienced this technology at the turn of the century, at Tomorrow's World Expo. It was shit, you just had to think real hard and the first person to shoot blood out of their eyes was the winner.

The tech has gotten a lot better recently. The first consumer product released was the OCZ Nia, and with practice it will double your reaction time in most FPS games.

Its cool, but after looking at the videos im not impressed with its capabilities yet. Though is on the right track towards being awesome.

Oh please, nobody is forcing you to wear the headset. All they can do is pick up some voluntary brainwaves, and it takes practice to use headsets like these.

Radiation? All this thing does is read your brain waves and interprets them with software from your computer. It's not sending signals back like a cellphone.

VramK:
Precisely. These are just electrodes (that's why they call them "trodenets"), although certain other methods do in fact send radiation through the brain, such as one which uses infrared wavelengths for this purpose.
