Your TV is about to get a whole lot smarter

Everyone thought on-demand TV was a godsend when it finally arrived, but that could pale in comparison to moves that are planned by broadcasters and consumer electronics manufacturers.

They're apparently looking to expand their EPGs (electronic programme guides to me and you) to being including IPTV channels as well as offering 'advanced home networking.'

Director of the Institute of Advanced Broadcasting (IAB), Gary Thompson, explained that "Digital devices such as televisions, mobile telephones and cameras are merging into multi-use communications appliances and driving the broadcasting, telecommunications, IT, film, and gaming industries onto one digital platform."

Apparently, Sky's getting a facelift as well.

Is this digital TV trying to fix themselves up before everybody ditches television and rolls straight from the web?
