That is so awesome. Sure people are becoming lazy and will probably become more anti-social, because why talk to the person when you know all about them with just a hand shake. But I loved how you can just put your hands up and take a picture, because I've been many places were I either don't have a camera or don't have it with me.

Hmmmm. This is neat. Remember when calculators came around in the 70's at a price that was reasonable. Some people were worried our kids would stop being able to do the math? Then the children became the teachers and began to say, just use your calculators if you have one. Then they said, you must have a calculator for math. Well they are only a buck at the dollar store. Then with "Spellcheck" they worried kids would lose the ablilty to spell, then some teachers said, make sure you use "spellcheck" if you type your paper on your home computer. Then they said, "Only typed papers please, no hand written will be accepted!" Now kids use so much text language they DON'T know how to spell. So now we may have a gadget that just may diminish the need to learn...AT ALL! May be good, may be really, really bad. I hope for the better.

htere have been many movies using this as a premise, Johnnie Pnumonic, Matrix, to name a couple that invole conectivity to computers and the human brain. Sighn me up that would be cool like having a built in spellcheck and encyclopedic reference memory. That would sure help come finals time!

I'm not the most spiritual person, but with the story of Adam and Eve, when they ate from the Tree of Knowledge that's when they were cast out of paradise. So if this is taken metaphorically, wouldn't the availability of knowledge at all times destroy us in the end? If we know what is right and wrong then we wouldn't take any risk or have any sense of whimsical thought. I'm all for knowing as much information as the next guy, but without an experience or interaction that produces knowledge there is no wisdom gained.

wow really? Tell me why this is even needed? yeah maybe technology is cool, but its going to destroy us one day thanks to these people
totally fucking unecessary
maybe we have 5 senses for a reason? thank god we even have that, but no we have to try and get more being the selfish human beings that we are.
Read Ishmael and give that a thought... hence why this is totally fucking unecessary

I was just thinking of what kind of augmented reality games we are going to have in the future . . . "larping" might actually become mainstream one day, well maybe not mainstream, but maybe not so weird, lol.
[For anyone that didn't follow the connection: connect a device like this "6th sense" one with a see through visual display like a tricked out pair of glasses that relays an overlapping image of data or pictures. . . now just add gaming software]

technology has recently crossed a line. it has gone beyond making life easier and more enjoyable to outright replacing it. many people have, i believe, begun to lose certain social skills which are being made obsolete in the wake of recent technology. text messaging and myspace have made actual conversation an unfamiliar novelty. face to face social interaction is often nowadays clumsy for lack of practice. and what need is there to talk to someone and try to learn more about them or how their doing when their every thought or action is plastered on their webpage or sent to your cell phone? this is, i believe, another bit of technology which ought to be used in moderation, if at all. perhaps it could prove useful in some instances, but seriously: if you can't muster up the mental power to remember what type of paper towels you prefer, how will you survive if all this technology upon which you depend suddenly crashes?

"if you can't muster up the mental power to remember what type of paper towels you prefer"
It's not about remembering old information, it's about acquiring new information that would be relevant to you.
So when you pick up a new product that you know nothing about, the display tells you relevant information on whether or not it would meet the standards of your personal preferences.
The alternative is to have to go home and spend the time to look up information on every product you come across. This kind of augmented reality technology could be very useful and beneficial.

Man, when you can get high speed internet anywhere and you get Ghost In Shell technology where you can have a cell phone conversation with someone IN YOUR MIND, then I'll be hyped. Till then, this is just a small stepping stone. An impressive stone, but a stepping stone none the less.

We're inundated with information as it is, mostly superfluous. I can't see how this will actually improve lives. We'll just feel more dependent on technology and less lucid in our unaided thought.

Oh, cool. We watch Ted Talks in my Psychology class. =D I wonder if my teacher's seen this video...
I think that's kinda cool, and the part with the tags on the person's shirt doesn't invade too much privacy, it just shows tags that the person them self put on their blog, so there's nothing there they don't want you knowing.
I just hope we can stay away from being too dependent on technology.

If you would have asked me years ago if THE BORG was a warning about a future that was based in probability, I would laughed in your face. And now all I can do is laugh at myself...
Anyone who cannot see how this technology can further the already PANDEMIC state of NON-THINKING, or lack of ability of the majority of humanity to think for themselves, then you already have your brain implants.
Good luck with maintaining your current sense of self. It won't be yours much longer...

I'd be down for an add on external device that would be similar to this; but, personally I don't think I would ever get a brain implant to hardwire myself into the internet . . . to many bad possibilities involving hackers.
Btw, did anyone else pick up on the problems that guys are going to face when using a projector that projects a description of a female onto the female's chest? It made me giggle thinking about all of the work-related sexual harassment cases that this would cause, lol.

I forgot what the movie was named back in the sixties but it gave a warning of the system being misused. When a group that rules the nation can read your thoughts without your knowledge, they would have access even to your dreams and be able to convict without the crime being commited. Or better yet be able to control your thoughts and movements to keep themselves in power.

I don't think it wise to implant anything in our brains that is artificial. Why are people so lazy that you need infinite technology plugged into your head at all times? Why not just stop breeding humans all together and start breeding androids. This is the direction this is heading and it's completely out of touch with nature. When we will learn that technology is only a tool and not meant to replace our natural abilities to learn and process information. Stop messing with NATURE. We are killing it enough as it is. Now we are turning to destroy our internal nature. NO GOOD. Impressive innovation but I don't want anything in my head.

Yeah, it was very depressing and I can remember saying that to my wife after I finished reading it. Also the last Feed in the book starts with, “Feeling blue?”. Everything was so beautiful and Utopian in the beginning; growing up as a teenager in the future when this technology is fully developed, but then everything goes Mal and the author kept you hoping for a happy ending but there isn't one. I don't think this very real technology will have a happy ending for us either. Also, I feel the author gave the characters too much control over the Feed. When our technology reaches that level I feel that our brains will have a hard time discerning between what we ourselves want to do and what the Feed wants us to do. …….”Everything must go.”

the real problem here is that people do not know how to think...there is no need to look to building a 6th sense..we all have one..learn how to use it..but not for shopping,e.t.c.
If it is difficult to select things from a supermarket shelf..there is clearly something wrong with humans..but then we know this already dont we..which is why someone has to invent more complicated technologies..to take them away from their own naturally responsive thinking processes... - 3 years ago

right, but intuition isn't going to tell you which paper towel is the greenest alternative, and mcwally is probably right about technology replacing inherent thought processes. The facts that were used to determine which product is the greenest are probably stated somewhere on the product, but we don't generally decipher that information, we rely on someone, or now something else to tell us what that information means.
