They'll be piloting broadband speeds of 200Mbps for a group of 100 "lead adopters" (users) in the UK, following successful trials in their labs.
Branson's boys will be testing out streaming 1080p high definition TV and 3DTV on what is believed to be the world's fastest internet.
If you had 200Mbps you'd have nothing left to download in an hour, you'd have the whole Internet!

My cable co. gives me 20mb down/2 mb up. I rarely use 1 M/sec down. And that's only if a torrent is really well-seeded.
what the heck kind of servers are you people connecting to? It's only going to be as fast as the server...

No server in the world would allow a 200mbps connection to rape it. I know I wouldn't let my website be accessed on a 200mbit downlink utilizing bandwidth.

They could make it a million times faster than that and it wouldn't make a difference to me - I live on a cabled street but they refuse to cable the building! :'(
Incidentally, Virgin Media's HQ is in a nearby town that isn't cabled at all!

FreshPlastic:
You mean Branson is using ADSL in his Virgin offices??
That's nuts. Especially if their ADSL is anything like it was when I lived at uni...

I don't think Branson goes to Virgin Media's HQ all that often. Hook in Hampshire isn't quite London or NYC!

That is one hell of a broadband connection. Imagine how quickly a film would download :-o
The concept of streaming HD movies sounds appealing, but I imagine is a pretty long way off for the majority of us.
