Korea laugh at your broadband! 1GB per second by 2012

The recent story on the UK getting 200MB per second broadband has already been super seeded by those crafty Koreans who announced in February they would be installing a broadband infrastructure capable of delivering speeds up to 1GB per second.

That downloads a 2-hour movie in around 12 seconds. It doesn't come cheap though, it's going to cost around 24Billion US Dollars to make and install and will only be available in the major cities. The surrounding area will just have to make do with their current measly 100MB a second!

    • I used to use 100mb in my Apartment (Flat) in Korea.
      Oh... 1GB... Unbelievable for me.

By the way, I hope Korean ISP improve oversea connection because that line is quite low quality, I cannot watch video clips or hard to download files for Korea.

    • I'm less than an hour outside London and only get 2 meg if I'm lucky! :'(

One can only dream of a time when I even get twice as much as what I'm getting. 1GB would be nuts!

    • Wonder how this new Internet infrastructure will impact on the Korean creative sector, given that they've just announced the Korean government is now overseeing all video games, cartoon, TV & online content,

      Still, 1Gbps is nuts!
