Twitter founder's launching new project, code name Squirrel!

This could be massive if his previous start ups are anything to go on.

The founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, has revealed he's working on a new project and a 'knowledgeable source' of Techcrunch has claimed it's been given the codename Squirrel.

This source claims "It’s a service that allows anyone with an iPhone to become a merchant. Just like the wireless credit card swipers you see at certain shops and restaurants, you can carry around your iPhone and take payments. Apparently, the idea is that this will allow any individual to take credit card payments on a mobile device, kind of like what PayPal does for the web."

Why would you need to be taking payments off people with your phone though?

      "Hi I'm a prince from Nigeria, my dad has left me $100 trillion, zillion which I need to transfer to your iPhone so I can access it again when I leave the country. I'll send it to your Squirrel account, just before I do thie just send me $100 to releaseand I'll transfer the money"

    • This is a great idea. My mum often sells her products are trade fairs, located in a muddy field in the middle of nowhere. Those credit card terminals need some kind of pluggable connection. This is a great idea.

      Think how useful it would be to pay by card at festivals sometimes instead of getting in that 200 person queue for the 1 ATM on site!)

    • Oh joy! - Now gangs of youths can take mugging payments electronically, using YOUR iPhone they just stole.

      Seriously though, sounds very interesting, if it's secure and easy to use, this could revolutionise payment, no need to carry cash around any more
