About the Silicon Stilettos meet-ups
What's 80/20? It's a typical ratio of men versus women at most tech meet-ups. Isn't it about time it was the other way around?

Minibars, DrinkTanks and OpenCoffees are all great, but how about a women-only (or almost women-only) meet-up, with lots of cocktails, relaxed networking and no pressure?

So if you're a woman in tech, writing about tech or running a tech start-up, join us! We don't have a regular sponsor, so you might need to buy your own drinks, but good company should make up for this.

*Men are welcome as long as accompanied by the Silicon Stilettos members.

      And wasn't it the head of IBM, Mr Watson, who said in the 70's - 'Personal Computers? Don't be ridiculous! We couldn't sell more than 5 of them a year!'

      Um, er, ah, damn!

      IBM sold the personal computer franchise to China.

    • Having worked in an IT department which was sabotaged by the introduction of brainy females I must speak out.

      Among systems techies always there is considerable nervous instability to deal with.

      Only a limited (but technically vast) number of inputs, complications, rivalries for most eccentrically brilliant wonk, floating variables, role-player's arabesques, tangential analytical concerns, movie and other mensa trivia contests, one-offs, idiot-proofing crises, white-knuckle-panic moments and screaming heebee-geebee days, can be tolerated in any one quarter

      Metaphysically, epistemologically, visually, anatomically, psychologically (and sideways from nowhere) a female techie can hit a male techie from all of these points simultaneously, and still look too hot to turn away from, or duck.

      Of course, you say - it was a bloodbath.

      A psychiatric playpen\ward for perpetually infantile males turned into a boggle-eyed "I-Must-Possess-Her Forever!" snake pit.

      Naturally, attitudes to management were ambivalent and when possible directed as a projected voodoo hatred against Personnel.

      True, Management often was blessed for adding beauty pageant eye-candy to the office decor, but as often leadership was cursed and condemned behind blank stares, for mercilessly increasing blood pressure to boiling during office hours..

      People who had never understood dating rituals, let alone participated, nor experienced clinical symptoms of apocalyptic consummatory rapture, [beyond the release of a new CPU architecture (and MANUAL!)] succumbed to new sensations. This caused them, again technically, to abandon their own material universe and imagine their new colleagues in peeler bars in a new corporate orbit. Horrific to morale.

      Now distracted and paralyzed by unreachable joy the mens' work declined, while the women soldiered on with perfect poise. At which point many newbies noticed the males' plights and committed the ultimate indignity -- they offered solace to the melted wings of their fallen Icarus, colleagues..

      I can only assume it has become more complicated since..

      Gawallieee ( wherein we (of course, we were in grade school reciting of recitals to "God and Country We Trust" at the time of) open(ind) flood gates to both "love and WAR" into our glorious lands of opportunity.

      Might therefor this seem to suggest then that "productive toil in American soil" has NOW been rendered an "allyallyfee unto boils for spoils?"

      Well, perhaps reciting of cynical free expression; but wait, I can already hear the approach of thought police of grave needs to intervene and deem this a form of violent communication -- as in touching even with elements of terror or suggestions of inciting "grave offense" (even be it armed arguably with merely a bit of (oh dear, oh my, mustn't say) TRUTH).

    • The girls of Team Twitter (current.com/teamtwitter) attended a SiliconStilettos meet up tonight. It was awesome! It was exactly as described above - relaxed, intelligent and interesting atmosphere.
