    • Women spend the most money to look good I think this is good marketing. I bet on the west coast people are sporting cute laptops just because. It is a required accessory these days :-)

    • Sexist because they advertise to women? I'm sure they did some market research and it's no secret counting calories, finding recipes, and cooking videos are popular with the ladies.

    • Andrea Learned, a marketing expert and author of “Don’t Think Pink — What Really Makes Women Buy”, says Dell’s attempt to reach the female demographic is “condescending to women… There’s a level of consumer sophistication they’re missing,” and “that’s when they start getting into trouble.”

      --------------------

That's an excellent point. Why do they think marketing to women means dumbing everything down and making it pink? This would be a great Target Women segment - I would love to see Sarah Haskins take this one on.

    • I wouldn't go so far as to call dell "sexist". I've been to the della site, and they are simply attempting to target a specific demographic with it, most likely first-time and casual computer users, by providing a lit of uses that may or may not appeal to the demographic.

I'm not saying it's the most effective ad campaign ever... but sexist? that's too far.

    • Since the skiing season just recently ended, this move by Dell reminds me SO much of the dreaded "face plant." You know, where the newbie takes on a slope that is clearly too difficult for him, trips over his own skis going so fast that he doesn't have time to put his hands out in front of him, and plants his face so firmly in about two feet of powder that his head and neck disappear completely...

Here, Dell appears to have performed my favorite variation of the "face plant," in which the impact is so jarring that it actually releases the ski bindings from the skiers boots, causing the skis to continue sliding down to the bottom of the slope, alerting everyone they pass to the carnage further up the mountain.

Henceforth, when coming upon the aftermath of such an insertion and helping the fellow to extricate his cranium from the frozen tundra, I will try to remember to inform him: "Dude! Looks like you got a DELL!"

Gosh, thanks for the critique. I am just so deeply honored that you would even deign to read my posts let alone take your valuable time to assess the quality of my metaphors...

I am surprised your folks let you stay up this late on a school night, however.

    • Also i'm pretty sure it's important to mention that by putting an anorexic chick under your "now available in beautiful" add pretty much tells an entire generation of women that they must reduce their weight to those specifics to be beautiful.
So uh, thanks for another generation of bulimia and anorexia... I guess?

    • Hey Dell while your at it could you also tell my girlfriend to greet me when I get home every night with nothing but an apron on holding a jar of Heineken on one hand and a bowl of nachos on the other?
      Thanks, bye.
