Conceived by designer Kubik Petr, the vehicle holds only two passengers with a minimal amount of luggage. It's driven by two electric motors connected to the vehicle's back wheels. The car would be built from the lightest of materials and can operate for up to 20 hours.
Upon entering the cab, passengers set their destination using the taxi’s touch screen interface. I imagine they would pay the same way.
While I think it’s a fascinating concept, I'd mostly miss the Grand Theft Auto-style ride you usually get from a human-powered taxi.

Just look at how far we have come in the last century. The first flight, The atomic bomb( not necessarily a good thing), solar power, The first manned space flight, the moon, landing rovers on Mars, laser weapons, cellular phones, engineering marvels like the Hoover dam, buildings over one hundred stories, electric trains, THE INTERNET, nuclear submarines, night vision, compact disks, DVDs, GPS, mp3, all of which would have been science fiction a short time ago. so just because something is on the cutting edge don't discount the possibility of seeing them in use within the near future. I still want my flying motorcycle!

because all these ideas are bought out by companies and killed. Take any MIT student out school, hire them for your company and tell them shut up about robots and make military drones. Yea thats progress, thanks capitalism...

man v. machine personally I hate to drive, I Think this would be great. What if your favorite pub had a few you could get tanked and get a free ride or even not free but sober. gps automated transports, It's good to be alive and to see the future unfold. about the cabbies, I'm sure they'll be fine, considering that they make money on service, people pay for the conversation or the lack of it, their biggest threat comes from the fuel pump.

How does it detect cars around it?
Electric taxis which require driver would be better...in terms of unemployment.

My question is about employment. Unfortunately we live in a capitalistic society with poor and rich, and uneducated and educated. I don't think it is very possible for an entire market to go robot on us, at least not quickly. Perhaps new employments in monitoring and maintaining robo-taxis will make up the issue of no taxi drivers.

great, but how does it drive with other traffic? where is the information about the motion detectors and the results of those tests? that's what I want to know before we start discussing any futuristic ideas. Where's the infrastructure?
