Part two sorry this so long ..
There is a lot of history i found the do not teach anymore as they feel isn't need WT? how can anyone build a better internet if you don't know it core of it now and then? you need to know Where it came from what it was really about.
The internet wasn't Just about Twitter or Facebook or Myspace or You-tube It was well about places like Current TV and many others like it.
it was for building networks of people to give life to ideals and to help save lives with open talk of medical data and to connect school all over to share knowledge and bring class rooms to where there were none. All the shiny newness is gone but there some many people are shining as they did 20 years ago those in China who did know of the internet talk to people here and reaching out for our help to give them hope for freedom and we did our best to help and now We see it again in Iran and on Twitter is the new tool as is many other networking sites and will have to of our Friend lock away with no clue as to how much we care and want to come home in from North Korea safe and unharmed. the internet has way to do so much it showed so much and still can but we need some way to cut away the electronic garbage that flood it.
Sorry I am one those that care about the power and the history of the internet and what it can still be and what it doing right now with some many wanting to have freedom at the cost of the very life and we online see it and support their cry out for justice.
I glad to see it unfold and to come about at a time when it can be seen in real time and not on some video tape some days or week later . think of how thing were and are now and what key part of the change that the internet did in your life time.
some of you just see it and think nothing but some see it and that why we are here in the front of a box from a mind of anther time doing thing that at one time was the stuff of dreams.
The net is your what will you do with it now?

No Al gore jokes here .but he did cast that final vote to open the net to commerce .no inventing just seeing something more..wow he was right.
.I got my first computer in 82 and Commodore 64 but I had been hanging out that the local Jr college computer lab in 77 through 79 and then again starting in June of 1979 after graduated from high school(30 years ago today I just noted I made my first internet account) it didn't last long as to budget cuts the shut down some of the computer dept and I could not use the computer lab unless i was in a class. but i still got in . then i used my 64 to get on and work then i was on and off till the the late 80 as I got a Amiga A500 and fast modem and i was back online (kind of) then in 91 i got to a good CSU and i got my second (well 3rd) internet account and i still have it as at the time all account were for life .
I had a real shell account no icons not GUI to use just command line . Chat was IRC and mail was with Pine and the best thing was i could call a local ph# with my Amiga and be online from home for free
I har around 3 to 4 account at one point on campus and was working in the Mac lab(the PC lab was only 25 to 30 PC the Mac lab was over 110 systems
the computer science Dept was 4 Suns 3 Macs 4 or 5 Nexus Cubs and 30 Amiga 3000 and i could use all of them and did as i had the pass code to the lab.I watch the world wide web(or as we called it world wide wait) grow up and out of the box to what it is i saw the growth pf users and even Instructors that would hid or bury there computers under book to keep from dealing with this new high tech box but finally got online an loved it.
When I had to leave the CSU (ran out of fund and some other reasons)I still had my accounts and the change over the year and were cut down to just the one but the campus grew and the internet became a common thing noting new but still growing .it lost some of it powers but just to gain new one..Who remembers arche search or Jughead or veronica? search or Lynx and IRC shell commands or telnet or FTP most of this is now all on the web but not the same USENET was some pace you could post idea and make connection with people and do research that was seen by people all over the world at one time. No MS ran a network it was all CPM.,Unix and IBM big Iron MS was jsut start up with this win windows 3.11 and then win 95 and NT and the macs first PPC and the Commodore Amiga's and Atari's still were the computers if the day but by 95 Apple and the PC market were alone as companies fell away .
and the internet grew and IBM and and Apple pushed on NT gain ground and windows gain ground with IE and a battle as to who would run and own the net started Apple and PC and IBM with MS wanting to have its server running MS OS but they found that wasn't going to be easy as this guy Linus showed up with Linux and the race was one with new ideas and players open source programing something no one would have thought of with out this new world of the internet .So much history that can never really fit in to a book as it terabytes of data in the billions and we lose some of it ever day with out one person knowing it.
Data centers go off line that have been around since the first days of the ARPNET(that what it was before the name change) the military want the ultimate computer one that would do the job even if part was destroyed and it worked but no one could understand it that well and soon part were de-classified and given to the Universities and colleges and the charge time to other college and to use there computer time (a great read Clifford Stoll Cuckoo's Egg 1991 it one of the first real hacks of large internet system) good book on ho it all happen.end or part one

It was probably a wav (wave) based on the time frame. mp3s came after to solve the problem of size for transfer speeds and storage space.
Many folks (on the audience/ consumer side) have returned to wave files now since a 40mb file can be downloaded in a matter of a few short moments rather than several hours.
the use.net was filled with lots of ... my time ;)

It was like 14.4Kbps dialup, and I specifically remember him saying, "mp3." It was cutting edge.

I remember the first MP3 my tech teacher downloaded from the Internet in 1994. It sounded awful with tons of digital distortion and it took all night to download, but I thought it was the most amazing thing ever.

I remember in the 80s, waiting for a few hours to be so excited to have sat with a friend and have seen a photo being sent from another friend.
We prank phoned a friend & were amused to hear her voice through the horrid computer speaker (one speaker, not two... there was no stereo option!)
my 44mb external hard drive in the 90s was several hundred dollars!
A few months ago I got a 6gig mini Sony usb drive for $6 at Frys in Burbank.
