    • A big box made of trees? That isn't so bad! How about a big box made of metal? When the grave is opened, there can be a powerful smell that is almost identical to fertilizer. (I know- I worked in a cemetery) We got a chuckle one day when they opened up a grave- "Did you see Bob? He turned three different shades of green!!") Usually, though it was fine. Trappist monks just wrap the body in a white sheet, and lower it into the grave on a bed of straw- the ultimate "green" burial.

    • Nevermind that funerals are terrible for the environment. Embalming someone with really noxious chemicals and then burying them in the ground in a big box (made of trees)... taking up precious space on our already overpopulated planet.

A landfill > cemetery. At least a landfill generates energy. I think having yourself buried is one of our most ridiculous, antiquated traditions... so wasteful.

I also hate the Prius for keeping people buying gas cars (that have a terrible upfront footprint) under the guise of greenness... so this post hits me where it hurts.

    • A perfect hearse to use for that poor unfortunate tofu eating, meat protesting tree hugging neo hippy who is killed after running though a stop sign because she was busy texting on her BlackBerry. If she had been paying attention, she would have seen that I had the right of way, driving my luxurious, comfortable and decidedly un hip Chrysler New Yorker on my way to a gun show! :)
