MAV (Micro aerial vehicles) are useful for infiltrating buildings, sniffing out chemicals or spying on Osama, but the problem with scaled down versions of helicopters and planes are they're not very efficient.
Cue - robo-bat - an MAV based on a bat.
The researchers did extensive analysis of bats' skeletal and muscular systems before developing a robot using rapid prototyping technologies. The fully assembled metal skeleton weighs less than 6 grams.
