It's not a huge change. They'll just find other ways to charge the moneys elsewhere.

Now I just need Itunes to foot the bill for all of the thousands of dollars worth of music that I downloaded from them with DRM so that I can finally use all my tracks with my DJ software..... instead they are asking me to pay another 400 bucks!

Don't get too excited, it sounded more like whining than a change of strategy.
The RIAA and their record company ilk are egotistical dinosaur fucks.
They don't -care- about music or a better way to do things, they're a bunch of fatcats who sit up in their offices and throw temper tantrums all day.
That's why they sued that girl who downloaded one album for over 2,000 dollars a song, they're petulant children.
The solutions are out there to prevent piracy and they've already been implemented in many places (itunes, Rhapsody, all-you-can-listen monthly fee subscriber fees) but they don't care to deal with that either.
DRM never worked, ever, and they've known it the whole time.
They just don't care to change, and they probably never will. They'll die before making the most basic of changes to their organization to flow better with the times. Seems to be an emerging American stereotype.

you have to see the fight on fsf ( http://www.faf.org ) side. they have been fighting the RIAA along with adobe, microsoftm apple and all that is DRM. the RIAA is crumbling from independant artists a large body of complaining consumers and FSF continuing the fight.
we hav won a small victory but a damn good one! things are just gonna change, and they are gonna start changing faster. the japanese are opensource they quit microsoft and DRM, places like shockhound and beatbport deliver DRM free music the Wiki and event this very Current site is opensource (in a way)
the consumers now have better technology then the executive assholes.
if your a musician like me join our fight http://www.featuredartistscoalition.com/showscreen.php?site_id=161&screentyp...

And here I was thinking that the music industry didn't have any common sense. Turns out they're just extremely slow.

It stands for Digital Rights Management.
