HD-DVD might have died but Blu-ray is still in trouble

JClem
Just when you thought that the high def format war might have been over it seems the chinese government has different ideas.

The state sponsered format CBHD (China Blue HD) now has a 3% market share lead over Blu-ray in China, indicating that a brand new format ar might erupt.

Stil its hard to believe that either of the format will ultimatley survive given that I personally think the future lies in HD content on demand, downloaded from the internet.

The video is in Chinese by the way ;)

    • But if resisting fingerprints, dust, and scratching is the focus... that could just be done on current media. So I don't see how a new standard matters.

Companies like Sony *want* the media to wear out to bolster sales. After 5-7 years, a format change resells old albums and movies. Downloading isn't much different. You pay to download a movie in HD quality, you'll pay more later to download the same movie at BD quality (at least some percentage of them).

Pardon me while I go pay iTunes 30 cents a song to upgrade my AAC files to MP3.
