Wikipedia gets new rules

On the English version it's arriving the "controlled revision": information will be checked by some volunteer editors, before being entered on web. They are discussing about this on the Wikimania conference, scheduled this week in Buenos Aires.

    • I am all for them bringing some moderation to Wikipedia as I have literally seen sections of an article about ancient china replaced with someone's rantings of how stupid some person I've never met is . . . I'm not so cool with controlling the content though - who's to say what is a fact and what just sounds good? Or what about those little known facts that might be lost or be made to be "untrue"? Having fact checkers instead of fact writers hopefully will keep the whole free form idea of Wikipedia and might not allow it to be lost or to be corrupted/hijacked as easily.

    • This is really the way it should have been from the start, but I guess they probably didn't have resources when no one cared about it in 2003.

    • If anyone actualy goes to wikipedia to get accurate information they don't ahve spit for brains. wikipedia is a fun, sometimes factual sometimes not, website. Kindof like the hitchikers guide. To control the first freeform website makes me want to cry.

    • I like the struggle to maintain quality info over burdening a few individuals with the task to determine whats sounds info and whats not. I look at what wiki is and what this purposes to create from it and see two completely different types of info: Free; Controlled.... And I am tired of controlled. Hell, thats why I'm sooooo in love with Current the boldness to be FREE!

    • Here here Rosenquartz!!!

The information should be as accurate as possible, I agree.

Doesn't everyone want an accurate encyclopedia? Even if it means we have to wait a bit for a scholar to verify the changes?

      its not so dumb...

first off wiki was created by the opensource community its based on the idea of free information.

second, the whole volunteer thing is a pretty nice idea. this will keep the information free ( free speech free) and keep it accurate.
