You've got to have a big imagination and lots of patience to create a fire breathing robotic donkey-reptile -- that's what artist Lyle Rowell spent four months doing.
His 1,900-pound mechanical creature, named Lrry (pronounced "Larry") consists of various car, motorcycle and airplane parts, Rowell found while digging through old bits of junk. A two-cyclinder, 26 horsepower engine from a beat-down Citroën car, is used to power Lrry. Movement of the two front legs are caused by a chain-driven cranckshaft that is connected to a modfied gearbox, which has a built-in drive axle.
The fire breathing ability of Rowell's robot is achieved with the use of propane. Fast movement and fire don't go well together, so Lrry can only reach a top speed of 0.6mph.
