Springy shoes could make you faster

If you've never won a race before, then you were obviously in the wrong shoes. The yellow trainer above is the Spira -- designed to recycle the energy despensed by the force of your feet when running.

Up to 96 percent of the downward energy from your foot hitting the floor is turned into propulsive energy, as the springs in the sole propel you forward faster than normal. This action also minimises strain on the feet and allows you to recover faster.

The Spira trainer/sneaker will cost you $129.95 (approx £80) at Hammacher Schlemmer website:

The brand also comes in hiking boots, slip-on shoes and sandals, all with spring technology.
