Microsoft just announced that Word, Excel, PowerPoint will now be web based. In what's Microsoft's answer to Google Docs their new Office Web Apps have just had a technical preview.
The menu of applications available in Office Web Apps mirrors the applications found in the Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Although you won't find applications like Access or Outlook here.
It's only a pre-release version of the software and Microsoft is still testing, gathering feedback, but you can see screengrabs here http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeremiah_owyang/tags/webapps/
Is this a good time for Microsoft to launch a no-cost product to the market? Also as Jeremiah Owyang says "It’s not clear if the infamous “Clippy 2.0” will re-emerge –we hope not".
