Vodafone to offer Apple iPhone as well

Yesterday Orange confirmed it will stock the handset as O2's exclusive two-year deal with Apple to offer the iPhone has expired. The announcement follows months of speculation as to whether other UK networks would be able stock the handset.

O2 do not give me any 3G coverage at all in a 15mile area where I live in somerset and it's really low signal, so I put up with poor EDGE and GPRS speeds until I get back to uni in Bournemouth where thankfully I get a majority 3G connection.
I've never been a customer of Orange but would be interested in seeing their pricing plans when my contract finishes. I just hope O2 won't be awkward about me leaving like Vodafone were when I wanted to leave them. - 2 years ago

I would happily jump onto the 3 band waggon if they came in to play. They are the only network that will give me a 3G/HSDPA connection from my house down to London... all 120miles of road. 02 fails about 1 mile out of town, picks up on occasions on motorways, solid 10-15miles circa, then dies again. I think anything really could be better than 02 looking at the map.

I am on Vodafone with the BlackBerry at the moment but would consider switching now that you don't have to put up with o2 to get the iPhone...

I guess it depends where you are but by the looks of it Orange would be the best choice coverage wise, lets hope a bit of competition will bring down the prices too.

As Orange and T-Mobile's UK operations are merging (although IIRC they'll be separate operations for 18mths) this only leaves 3 out of the iPhone equation.
Will they jump onboard too?
As for Vodafone, if they could get their 'Vodafone 360' thingy-majig working on the iPhone, this would be a killer product ('tis doubtful though as Apple wouldn't like that).

Thanks for the map Barnopolis89 - very useful. I'm on O2 and I tend to leave my 3G phone on 2G because the coverage is so ropey. Somehow, because Apple products are so damn sexy, I don't even mind.

It'll be good to see some competition and see the difference in pricing.
As an iPhone owner since the 1st gen release in November 2007 I've become sick of paying such high fees for O2's contract and am getting such poor signal coverage in return. The iPhone's main selling point is internet use which I think Orange will be able to cater for quite well but Vodafone's 3G coverage is no better than O2's.
(Check out the link to UK 3G mobile coverage maps.)I still have another 14 months on my contract which will allow me to watch what happens between the different networks but by then there'll probably be another iPhone released...

Vodafone are going to be miffed that Orange got in there first yesterday and announced they'll be offering the iPhone to their customers too.
As an O2 customer (and big iPhone fan) I'll be a bit gutted if other networks offer much better prices and the people who jumped on the iPhone wagon early are left with higher prices and no joining perks.

Any pricing hints? Vodafone getting in there would make it available on ASDA mobile, and that would be good if it went to 4p a text and 8p a min.
