Traditionally, online learning has often been met with skepticism. A recent study conducted for the Department of Education found that students who did some or all of their coursework online scored higher in test achievement than students who learn only in classrooms. Online learning can be more effective than conventional classroom learning, argues Barbara Means, the study's lead author. Torriano Melancon, an intern with YO! Youth Outlook, reflects on the U.S History course he took online and how digital education actually helped him perform better in class.

Online education doesn't have the best reputation. It is assumed online education can’t compare to classroom education, because there’s no face-to-face interaction between students and the instructor.

This is true. Online education isn’t the same. However, some students prefer online education because they find it more engaging.
