Seeing as the current Google homepage is so cluttered, the guys over at Google had a bout of OCD and decided to get rid of anything unnecessary. The result is you only get the Google logo and a search bar.
Check the video for a small demo, the cool bit is if you hover near the top all the advanced options come back. Finally you can insruct you browser to always display this page. Check the link for more info
