Manifesto Abusivo di Samuele Bersani

I did this photo session with Samuele for his new album Manifesto Abusivo. The cover picture is an instant insane desperate shout. At the end of the shooting i asked him to to do some crazy thing, punch my camera, insult me and put out all the stress of the day. I was so amazed when i was told by his manager and his graphic designer that they would put that shot in the cover!! He is an incredible artist and so courageous too, to expose himself in a such picture.

    • I find this interesting on two levels:
The creativity involved in getting such a shot from someone - something really and truly spontaneous and genuine - isn't easy to come by. That Monica was able to shows a level of creativity she has, as well as the insight she has with every subject she shoots (I've seen quite a lot of her work, and it's always wonderful).

On another level I find this interesting because the contrast of this photo with the content of the album is remarkable. Outer "rage" versus inner "contemplation and frustration". If you knew nothing of the album's content, you'd think it was surely some kind of screaming rant - like so much of the music of today. Once you listen, you find otherwise. There's no screaming involved. At least, not out loud.

On the whole, it's a remarkable merging of vision and intent.

      Brava, Monica! More, please!
