The capabilities of the DASH cockroach are beyond what most would expect, for a robotic bug.
Designed at UC Berkeley, the Dynamic Autonomous Sprawled Hexpod, which weighs 16 grams and is 10cm in length, can withstand an 8ft drop, only to get moving again at speeds 15 times its body length per second.
Obstacles are hardly a challege as DASH can climb over low-level items with ease -- this is quite impressive considering the robot was created in just under an hour.
DASH is able to perform such amazing feats due to its cardboard exterior and polymer joints, powered by a small motor.
This could be a great companion for military/spy orientated programmes.
