My Android already has this app, but it is not as good. I bet the big time conspiracy nuts are going crazy over this. They're probably saying, " this is just another way for the government to track down what we are buying and what we like." Well, now that I have said it like that I am feeling kind of nervous about it. They might be watching what we are purchasing now. OH SHIP!--- Rodney E-

Brandon,
I think you may be talking about this program integrating a program like fooducate http://alpha.fooducate.com/
Their trademark line is "eat a bit better" and they track what you are eating and give you options that are just a tad healthier. Their idea is that you can make a gradual change to healthy eating more easily than making a great leap that may make you feel uncomfortable. Lots of exciting things are on the horizon and this IBM program. Likely, this will get much more traction if it is interoperable with all of the other players with creative ideas in this space.

Brandon,
What do you mean by "a way we could track this or pre-track it so consumers can make better purchases"?
Are you talking about consumer feedback?
If so, I am sure that IBM will add this feature as this is already being implemented by companies such as harvestmark or foodlogiq in the fresh produce field. And they are just the leaders in the industry. There are a whole host of other companies doing the same thing, each with their own twist.

the best part of this is just scanning the barcodes; that it's an ever-evolving system. now if there was a way we could track this or pre-track it so consumers can make better choices as they purchase, that'd be key.

This goes deeper into the discussion of the "Internet of Things" on the horizon. It is accessed by a barcode or rfid attached to an object.

This is how this iphone app will work in the produce aisle. Foodie feedback on quality is lacking in this application now but they will add it. And, if they don't add it we will.
