“Petman will balance itself and move freely; walking, crawling and doing a variety of suit-stressing calisthenics during exposure to chemical warfare agents,” the company promises. “Petman will also simulate human physiology within the protective suit by controlling temperature, humidity and sweating when necessary, all to provide realistic test conditions. ”
Like Boston Dynamics’ BigDog robo-mule, Petman stays upright, even when it’s shoved. And the thing walks heel-to-toe at 3.2 miles per hour, just like a flesh-and-blood person. Petman may be just one of a number of attempts by robot-makers to build a simulated set of biped legs. But I haven’t seen one that gets closer to the real deal.
Leonardo da Vinci made a robot knight. The photos of the first replica are at

Asimov would say he told you so. Now we can be the gods to a new type of life form when the memory systems get small enough.

Awesome and scary. I know how variable applications can be when the military get their hands on it.

Dear Army,
You are doing it wrong. Please make a robot like one in the photo. Also your robot sounds like it is being powered by a steam engine.
P.S. Sorry it took 20 posts before there was a terminator reference. The internet must be broken today.

I hate to burst your bubble ochre but 402Chicago brought up Terminator a long time ago. On the bright side though... that means that the internet is not broken.

Yeah that's a little creepy looking. Mount a couple of lasers on them and they would fit right into any star wars episode. On the other hand I can only imagine what uses and potential there is for these robots in prosthetics. Wow...

I bet you 100$ it can not dodge a bomb, grenade, bullets, or even a gentle trip

Why would it need to? Just make its exoskeleton out of ceramics like the make dragon armor out of... its virtually impenetrable. Besides, it is very easy to kill all electronics within given boundaries... or to simply throw off their inputs via various other simple methods... so why waste the bullet or grenade?

It would certainly be creepy, but I'm sure amputees, stroke victims, people with muscular or neurological disorders, etc could really benefit from 'bionic' parts like this....probably couldn't be affordable in our lifetime.
I'm not sure if it would be more or less creepy if it came with flesh-like molded casing...but would definitely be great for people in need.

It may not seem like it has anything to do with the tyranny described in 1984, but I think that unless we get our act together even the most unlikely technology could be used against us.
Much like in 1984, the tv screens that were used to play propaganda constantly and keep an eye on everyone.
This technology is impressive all I am trying to say with the 1984 reference is be careful who is using it and what they are using it for.
I say instead of letting the army use these robots for whatever kind of testing, we try and build a future in which we wont need an army.

We're getting there, slowly but surely.
Just like the predecessors of the Wright brothers, robots are coming in small baby steps.

It was theorized that Leonardo built Robots. A paper was submitted/accepted to Leonardo Society and it was commissioned to be built. The picture is of Leonardos Lost Robot Knight on Display in Tulsa.
