China's gaming regulator (GAPP) has reportedly said the sister company of NetEase, the company who run WoW, has grossly violated the rules. This all comes at a time when according to Reuters, Beijing is looking to tighten controls over online gaming with worries about its content.
What's not to like about orks and witches and trees and things?
Weighing in on the current confusion the Chinese government's Ministry of Culture, which also takes an interest in gaming in the country has reportedly said GAPP's actions are "not appropriate."
So who will out in this struggle to let geeks across China sign up and play in this epic fantasy?

its notting about wow, its about the chinese government doesnt want its people wasting there lives in the online world.
to be honest i wish online games were limited in england, and banned from people who are under 14 from playing online.its not healthy, some of these kids play 8+ hours a day everyday! for years, it ruins them socially in the real world.

Since most of these same kids will be expected to spend 10-12 hours per day in front of computers for the bulk of their lives, to earn a living, I would think you'd be more worried about those social consequences.

theres a difference between working on a computer as a paid job and playing a video game for hours,
im training to be a software enginneer, sure i spend alot of time on the computer but il spend time speaking to customers alot.a 12 year old kid who plays wow allday everyday isnt going to have the social skills needed for when hes older in the real world, computer games at a early age are very bad for a child health and growth as a person, they should be encouraged to take more social activities such as sports, so they can grow physically and socially

I can tolerate talking to a kid who plays too much videogames.... what I can't tolerate is talking to someone who believes the government should regulate an individual's personal life, right down to their choices of entertainment, nor indeed somebody who apparently utterly fails to understand the function of the parent as carer. I can't tolerate the kind of person who would support banning something just because I can tolerate a nerd, but I can't tolerate a fascist. It seems to me like your young development must have been more than slightly stunted, to have produced someone so frail of will.

I'm with Hostile, also there are so many gamers and people who spend so much time on the web that there ARE social interactions, more so than a normal persons day (assuming normal means working 9-5). In my experience, any game where you can play with other people has alot of talking, organizing, strategies, and cooperation, because without it nobody would do very well cause everyone would be by themselves, giving a sense of need for others.
Plus, I think it's hilarious when a game vet. gets pwned by some little kid with a mic whose working on his pathetic trash talking. - 2 years ago

about a giant F you hostile?
:)
my developments just fine, but since ive worked with kids who have played ALOT of video games and ones that havent, the ones who didnt and chose sports instead were alot healthier in general and socialised better.and im sorry but are you a total idiot?
the government control our lives anyway, look around you. we have age limits on everything, this is the same kind of issue as smoking,
im allowed to think that the government should have some control over issues that would damage our health.i understand that a game could be beneficial in small doses as well as that guy says, it can promote teamwork and other things. but it HAS been proven to have negative health effects when a child of a very young age, 10-13 plays games all day everyday. as everyone knows, children need exercise daily, and if your kid isnt interested in sports or playing with friends outside hes loosing not only the social side, but the health benefits.
parents should have a right to treat there kids how they want, but it doesnt mean there right does it?
the government controls everything. get over it. i dont agree about china banning alot of websites, but i agree that video games can be unhealthy esp wow.
i can tolerate people having opinions on this, but i cant tolerate idiots who think everyone who thinks that the government should help us out is a facist.
