Facebook Okay with Pro-Rape, Anti-Consent Group

A group of students, both past and present, of the all-male St. Paul's College at Sydney University, decided to create a pro-rape Facebook page called "Define Statutory" that reportedly was allowed to stay up on the site for several months.

The question that remains, however, is why Facebook allowed a pro-rape group to exist on the service to begin with. This is a social networking site that refuses to let women post pictures of themselves breastfeeding, mind you, but it's okay to make a "hilarious" pro-rape group in the "Sports and Recreation" category? The group was public, by the way, accessible to anyone and visible to all. Interesting, isn't it, that in the eyes of Facebook, a woman shouldn't be allowed to show her breasts while feeding her child, but it's perfectly acceptable for men to make a highly public "sport" out of rape.

    • Firstly, it is a joke.

Secondly, it is called a statutory rape page. By definition, statutory rape is consentual. Although the person that gave consent (the rapee) didn't have the right to consent since he/she is a juvinile.

Oh, so it's guys joking about having sex with minors...Sheesh, what was I thinking believing they were anything but honorable.

      Silly me...

I didn't know pedophilia was such great comic material...

You would be surprised what some otherwise, fine, upstanding citizens find funny. I love the dark, inappropriate stuff because I had a horrorshow childhood and I am currently a social worker. I laugh at some very bad things and say things that are unbelievably awful, but only to others that appreciate the sick humor. But I would never deliberately cause harm to any person or animal.

Throwing a group up on Facebook that advocates rape, although I see the humor in it, is still stupid. I guess because it violates my rule of not scaring the straights. Share the dark comedy only with those that appreciate it, not everyone on Facebook.

I disagree that statuatory rape is 'consensual'.
Consent is not defined in the definition. What's more, where does the issue of consent fall withing the discussion of coercion?

**The criminal offense of statutory rape is committed when an adult sexually penetrates a person who, under the law, is incapable of consenting to sex.**

If one party is under the legal age of consent, then they cannot legaly consent and therefore the act is not consensual.

    • Although there is no actual rape going on, I would not trust any of these fools to watch any of my children or nephews/nieces. Their openness to non-consent reveals their true character.

    • It was a joke. The group was a joke.

And before anyone says "what you do not joke about rape rape is not to be joked about you are terrible and insensitive"
I don't really care. I laugh at "tasteless" jokes. I think they're funny.

But also I think women should be allowed to post breast feeding pictures. That is also a "who cares" topic for me.

    • Could be just an opinion. But it isn't everyday that I get to suggest a pro-castration of pro-rapists group and I didn't want to miss the opportunity. Someone may run with it. :)
