The rumor started circulating late last week on Australian DJ message boards that manufacturing parent Panasonic had issued a statement blaming “low sales globally in analogue turntables” for the demise of the Technics 1200 and 1210 decks. It is claimed that Panasonic will cease production in February 2010.

You know, people should've seen this comming a long time ago...
Personally, we shouldn't be worrying ourselves over these little things (sure, you can definetely preserve them as antiques), because nothing lasts forever, and better things are always comming out... "progress" is an inevitability.

Update: Cnet has posted a story quoting Panasonic's Ian North, who denies the reports and says, while he is still waiting on clarification from Japan, news that sales would end in March was "premature".
"We are still supplying our dealers and we still have stock coming in," North said.
However, North said that there has been "a decline in the analog market" due to the popularity of computer and CD mixing solutions.

its a shame - because with software its not really dj'ing anymore for example using ableton is nothing like using decks - there should be a different name for it CJ or something!

@cynker not true... i can use my vynl turntables with my live... the decks control the software... the only difference is you carry a laptop not a box of cds/vynls...

yeah, it's nice using the old decks with a laptop. no dragging vinyl and around of course the limitless amount of tracks at your disposal. i think the vinyl i use to mimic the records is like 20min long so you get plenty of room to loop tracks for long periods...
