3D mash-up maps let you 'edit' the world

Vierotchka
ARMCHAIR explorers who soar over 3D cityscapes on their computer may be used to the idea of maps with an extra dimension. But they are now getting accurate enough to offer much more than a preview of your next holiday destination. Accurate, large-scale 3D maps could soon change the way we design, manage and relate to our urban environments.

    • I see the UK government is doing this. America can't because terrorists might use this information to do evil deeds. Our government never notices that they have already let the terrorists win and we are destroying ourselves in the process. We are doing exactly what they wanted. Going broke, falling behind in technology and allowing fear to dictate policy. I am so depressed.

    • My dentist already used terrain-mapping technology to photograph my existing teeth before he began a root canal operation. Before-and-after tooth grinding photos enabled the computer to fashion a matching crown which the dentist then installed . There was no need for a second visit, and the new crown was shaped just like the previous tooth.

This complex mapping ability is amazing.
